I am gonna start this off like this.I will send someone a usps money order for $10 if you help me get my rig working the way it should.

If I turn my pc on with the connection dvi(video card) to vga(monitor) I get a black screen and a message saying no signal.
If I plug the pc into my hdtv via dvi to vga like above it comes on and is fine.I can then unplug the cord from my hdtv and plug it into my monitor and it works fine.

I went out today and bought a $30 dvi to dvi cable hoping this would fix it.I plugged it into the gpu and the monitor turned the pc on and got the same black screen and no signal meesage.

This is a big PITA to have to hook it up to my tv then hook it up to my monitor everytime I turn the pc on or when it is in sleep mode.

If anyone can help me fix this I will send you a $10 usps MO as soon as it is fixed.I called gateway since my monitor is a gateway fpd1775w monitor and they said they cannot help me.Geek squad wants me to bring it in and pay for them to look at it so I figured I could give someone on here $10 for some info and have my pc back to normal.

Rig is in sig.I have no onboard video by the way.I have both pci e power connectors hooked up it just wont turn on after being off.

Running XP or Vista?

What display is the monitor set to under settings in the display properties? Sounds like your card isn't set up properly. Perhaps try updating the drivers to the newest available.

Do you have a backup card to test with?

So you monitor has a DVI input and using it is when you encounter the issue? If so, there's a fairly common (though intermittant) Vista problem using DVI. Typically there will be signal during bios and initial windows loading, but as soon as display driver loads the screen blanks out. For me the fix has just been unplugging the power and dvi cable to the monitor, letting sit for a minute then plugging back in.

Try what SteelSix recommended.

If you haven't, update to the latest drivers (180.48).

It shouldn't make any difference but try the other DVI port (two on the card, right?).

You might also try turning off the overclock while doing this testing to make sure it's not somehow related to the issue.

Sounds like a problem you can't fix with updating drivers considering you don't even need drivers to boot up a computer with monitor connected to the video card in boot up process. It's more so in the connectors of the monitor or video card.

You obviously tried your TV with dvi connection so the problem isn't your video card.

Your monitor is obviously having trouble receiving signals on it's own. I would try to get warranty service if I were you.

I just dont want to go out and spend $300 on a new monitor and end up having the same problem.I would like to keep this same monitor but it isn't working properly.I am a little worried of how big of a hit in performance I will take moving up to a bigger monitor.

All I do is play cod waw, bioshock,NFS MW and surf the web.My current monitor is 1280x720
How big of a hit will I take if I go to 1920x1080?

I want to get a blu ray drive at the same time I buy the monitor so I am thinking I will go to 1920x1080 so I will be at blu ray resolutions.
I dont think my Powersupply will handle a bigger video card.@ 1920x1080 I should need a gtx 260,4870 1gb,or a gtx 280.I dont think this PSU can handle a card like that.

I have 2 6 pin pci e connectors on the psu.
I only have the mobo,2x2 of ram,1 hard drive,1 blu ray drive soon,2 case fans,1 arctic cooler freezer 7 pro,and the video card.

Do you think I can use a gtx 260 without crapping out my psu?

I have tried both connectors on the video card with my dvi d cables.I think it has to be something inside of the monitor as to why and how it isn;t recieving that first signal.

I think now I just need to focus on getting a new monitor, blu ray drive and probably a better video card.

Have you tried what I suggested? As I said, there is a known issue with Vista and screen blanking using the DVI input, using both nV and ATI cards. I'd post links but you can google and find plenty by searching for "screen blanking" and nvidia or ATI. If you haven't tried what I suggested, consider doing so:

Disconnect all cables to monitor, disconnect DVI cable from vid card. Let sit a minute, plug DVI cable to vid card and monitor first, then power to monitor. Boot, if you see bios screen and Windows load, sign #1 it's not the monitor, if windows loads and you still have screen, problem solved. I've had a half dozen nV cards and three different lcds exibit the issue.

Tried it out and still nothing.I can hear windows load up and I still have no signal.
I dont know what the problem is.I cannot recieve signal thru my monitor with either the dvi to vga or the dvi to dvi connection.

DO you guys say it is the monitor or is it something else?
I had the same problem witha 8800gt and a hd4850 and now with my 9800gtx oc?
So it can't be the video cards and it can't really be my pc since it has done this on 2 rigs.
I sold my last rig hoping to upgrade from the 5000+ to the E8400 and hopefully solve this no signal problem.

Should I really start looking at monitors now or what

Doesn't sound like the DVI screen blanking issue then. It was worth a shot...

dump your monitor! go for a 1920x1080 monitor (since you watch Blueray)

check these 2 monitors out:

1) http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824116396 ($199 AR)

2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824116400 ($249 AR)

Difference between 1 & 2 is that #2 has these additional features:

a) HDMI connector
b) faster GTG (grey to grey)
c) higher contrast (20000:1 versus 18000:1, although this is simulated so you probably won't be able to tell the difference!)

Both are TN panels, but 170/160 degree view angle is decent for a TN (some TN still have 160/160 view angle). 3 years warranty from Viewsonic.

Personally I would go with #1, save 50 bux, it's more bang for bux IMO. The 9800GTX should be fine for most games on this resolution, but you will probably need to use "medium graphics" for most games.

Do it man!

I know my video card will struggle at these resolutions. That is fine.I dont need max aa/af.I can just sell my 9800gtx for $100 and buy a gtx 260 or a 4870 1gb.
What video card do you think would be better the gtx 260 or the 4870 1gb

My thougghts on your choices....

1) I like this 21.6" Asus. For $209, you get DVI, HDMI, VGA connections. 1080P. My only question is what is the warranty on this thing?? Newegg doesn't list it. If it's 3 yrs parts/labor, then it's a good deal. If it's only 1 yr, then I would go with the Viewsonic without HDMI. I don't think you necessarily need HDMI. I don't understand why people are so fasicinated with HDMI on a PC monitor.

2) This is just the 24" version of #1. So you get 1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080, for an additional 90 bux (close to 100 if you get taxed). But at $299 it's not a bad price. However, you will propably need to upgrade your video card if you wanna game on the 24" at its native resolution. I don't know man, how much cash do you wanna spend??? GTX260 + 24" LCD = lots of $$$$. However, IF the Asus allow you to do 1-to-1 pixel mapping (I don't know if it'll let you though), then you game at a lower resolution but you'll just see black sidebars, but at least your graphics won't get stretch to the point that everyone looks like dwarfs!

3) Sceptre. This is a no go for me. Only 160/160 view angle (horrible! horrible! for movies). 1 yr warranty. Betcha Sceptre calibrate their monitors to die at month 15th. If you're gonna get a 24", then go with choice #2, Asus, because for $20 bux more, the Asus gives you better view angle (170/160), and HDMI connector, that's worth 20 bux more.

If I were in your shoes, I would get a 1080P monitors (Asus or Viewsonic) and keep your 9800GTX. 24" LCD is really more than an average user need (IMO). Why? Because..

1) at 24", you can't really place 2 windows side-by-side without having to scroll one or more of the windows. So you'll end up scrolling on some websites, or applications (like a large Excel sheets) anyway, and if you expand the windows, then you'll end up switching overlapping windows like you would on a 22" LCD!! So from a "space usage" point of view, 24" may not be as useful as you think. (Now a 30" LCD is a completely story).

2) at 24" and on a TN panel, if you sit close, you can actually see the color shift on the monitor when you lean your body! Yep, that's how bad these TN panels are! So for you to not see the color shift so much, you need to sit far, but if you sit far, you might not feel comfortable reading text!

I have personally used a Samsung 24" (TN), LG 24" (TN), and I hated them, hated the color shift, hated when I bobble my head up and down I see the damn screen change color like a chameleon on me! Finally, I got the professional Dell Ultrasharp 2008WFP 24" model on Ebay for $350 after Live cashback, w/ 3 yr warranty, and in practically brand new condition. The professional Dell uses the MVA panel and my eyes are loving it. I will never go back to TN panel ever again. My other LCD is another Dell an Ultrasharp 20" that uses IPS panel, resolution at 1600x1200. I have the Radeon 4850 and gaming on the 20" Dell at 1600x1200 is awesome! Still graphics and text is even more awesome! The 20" IPS panel has even better color and view angle than the 24" Ultrasharp. I love IPS panel, I wish I could get a 24" IPS panel but that's out of my budget. I also game on my 24" Dell, but with only a Radeon 4850, I can't really game smoothly all the time at 1920x1200, so I have to either back way down on the graphics settings (don't even think about AA/AF), or back down on the resolution,.. and luckily, my Dell allow 1-to-1 pixel mapping.. so I don't get stretched out graphics but I get black sidebars, which I'm ok with.

if the monitor doesnt have it then you can can just do it from the Nvidia control panel under flat panel scaling. just select use "Nvidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio". you really only need that in games that dont have proper widescreen support.

Do you only care mostly about gaming and watching Blueray at 1080P? That's my impression of you. If that's the case, then I would go for the 1080P Viewsonic or Asus. I don't think you can go wrong with either one at about $200 (check the Asus warranty though, is it 3 yr or 1?). No need to upgrade your 9800GTX as it will probably be useful on this monitor size for 2 more years. Economy will be in a slump for 2 more years, so keep your GTX, and save your cash. After 2 years, you can dump everything upgrade to the then dirt cheap Core i7 and GTX295, agree?!!

Toyota is right about the Nvdia panel thing since i've also heard other guys saying it too. But I've never have to use it for 1 to 1 mapping, so i can't comment on it.
