BFG 8800GTS 640 OC2 and bad performance issues

I finally got around to installing this card (barely, due to size...had to move my chipset fan) and am a bit disappointed.

I came from a 1900XT and while the 8800 card is definitely faster, I am having some problems with a few games.

* UT2004 stuttering: go to BR - Bifrost, and any time you get near the entrance of either base the screen stutters. This is a known issue that can be fixed by removing hardware TL, however, I am not willing to do that. More accurately, I should not *have* to do that...

* Doom3:ROE - I don't know what to make of this one, it is just dog slow even at lower resolutions. It is the only game that is really choppy all the time.

* PREY - is not much better than Doom3. I tested the game at the same settings I had with the 1900 (and finished the game) and performance was awful...not even playable...at 1024x768!

* STALKER: I noted while testing it last night that, when raining, there are flashes of strange textures across the sky and play field. I am not sure if this is exclusive to nvidia or not, as I did not play it while raining with the 1900.

Other games seem OK : Oblivion, FEAR, Quake3, Supreme Commander, C&C3, Titan Quest, Call of Duty 2, GTA: SA

Overall, I believe this is due to drivers. I have tried the latest release, and latest BETA with no difference. And yes, I ran drivercleaner.

The Doom3 problem is a deal breaker. Any ideas here?

Besides a considerable benchmark point gain and a few more fps.
Thus far I'm not too impressed with my 8800gts(640) in rig #2 either.
Setting to setting with my other rig's 7900GTX, the graphic quality (eye-candy) wise in most games the 7900gtx constantly beating up the 8800 by a very noticeable margin.
For example, in the game of FSx, the aircraft models look like crap in comparison to the 7900GTX (same exact resolution & everything else).
So did some other games such FS2004 or Silent Hunter 4.
Nvidia'd better try harder to release better driver in order to earn my next Nvidia card purchase.
But then AMD doesn't have any thing better to offer me either?
