I recently bought a BFG 880GT OC 512 MB from bestbuy, and installed it on my system.
I'm using a 20" Dell LCD monitor bought some 2 years back.

My issue is with the supported resolutions by this graphics card. From the nvidia control panel i see that the only 16:10 resolution available is 1680x1050 @ 59Hz/60Hz which makes it very hard for me to read the text. I want to reduce the resolution to something more manageable. But i don't have any other option ... all the ones i see are 4:3, and not 16:10(widescreen).

Is anyone else facing the same problem? Are there any drivers or applications that i need to install to support additional resolutions?

Thanks!

If reading text is your only problem you could just change the dpi setting.
I probably have the same monitor as you but i dont really have a problem reading anything.
Maybe you could also try making a custom resolution for your desired taste?

Well, it is probably because the EDID of your monitor does not support any other resolutions below than in 16:10 aspect ratio. Download the utility MAM (Monitor Asset Manager) from the URL below:

http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

After you have downloaded it, install it and then run it. Look at the list of supported resolutions it reads off of your monitor. If no other 16:10 resolution is listed then that explains your problem. BTW, EDIDs are driver independent so updating to a different driver will not change the resolutions that your graphics card is reading from your monitor.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

I downloaded this MAM utility, and don't see any 16:10 resolution apart from the native 1680x1050. So guess i'll have to make do with what i have.

I changed the DPI to 120, and though the fonts are bigger, i cannot shake off the feeling that there is some amount of ghosting on the screen. I've tried to reduce the brightness using the monitor control, and nVidia's nTune. Strangely, the previous graphics card, GeForce 6600 GT worked beautifully.

You can add custom 16:10 resolutions in the Nvidia control pannel if your naitive res is not doing it for ya.

Sweet .. i added 1280x800 @ 60Hz, and now things look much better.

Thanks, Arcanedeath and johnnyhaze!
