Thinking about upgrading my BFG 8800 GTS OC 320MB and am confused by all the Nvidia offerings with similar names. I just got FEAR Platinum and I am having low framerates at 1900x1200 with most stuff on except AA. Just when the action gets heavy but it is noticeable. Will the 8800 GTS 512 be a worthwhile choice?

I upgraded from an EVGA 320MB 8800 GTS to the newer G92 512MB 8800 GTS because my roommate talked me into it. I wasn't really expecting a considerable performance increase, but I was definitely wrong. I don't regret it one bit. My resolution is 1680x1050, and I have yet to find anything that will really slow this card down (with the exception of Crysis, but it looks like a completely different game for me now). You won't regret it.

well the 8800gts 512mb will give a nice boost, but imo it is not worth the upgrade unless you can sell your current card for a decent price. usually upgrading within the same generation / series does not really give you a big enough boost to warrant the price. but if you have the money to spend, or need that performance really badly, then it will help a noticable amount. im gona stick to my 8800 gts 320mb personally until the next gen at the very least.

TC91's got a really good point. I forgot to mention I sold my 320MB 8800 GTS on eBay after I got my G92. I probably wouldn't have been quite as happy had I not.

Turn of AA wht35. That's exactly the thing that's killing your framerates. Since you only have 320mb of vram and play at a high resolution, AA isn't really an option. You could actually turn up a lot of stuff to med and probably even high, as long as you turn down the AA, preferably none, because even with 2x AA your framerates will suffer.

i love my 8800gts oc 320mb honestly..
im on an lcd with 1680x1050 and i can play all my new games maxed out.
i dont really see the point in an upgrade for my res, course if i had a 24" monitor or higher then i guess it would be different.
I switched to my 8800 from a 7950Gx2 and was rather impressed that i could bump crysis to high (except shaders of course) and have it be playable

anyone OC the 8800gts 320? if its anything like my 7950gx2 it should overclock decently.. then you could probobly move into the newer gts territory anyway depending..
i mean my old 7950gx2 went from 500/1200 to 650/1600 without artifacts.. it was like buying a new card lol

*course that still wouldnt help with the memory limitation, but still..
