Just so you know newegg sells brand new 8500GT for $60-65 after rebates. Both passive so no noise. No need to buy same card used for more.

However, depending on resolution you're playing at 8500GT may be a little weak to play HL2 so you might want to consider something more powerful if you got the money. For example passive MSI 8600GTS for $136 after rebates

or 7900GS as previous poster suggested.

That's like asking to choose between a kick in the balls and a bb shot in the eyes.

A used 6600GT/6800GT/7600GT/7800GT/7900GS/X1800/X1900/X1950 will cost similar $$$, and be many times better.

don't buy from him just b/c you know him. I saw a 1950 pro on newegg the other day for $120 AR. that is the card to get, it flat out destroys the either of those others.

an 8500gt is better than a 6600gt. not by much but still better.

OP, the 8500gt is an ok deal but it really it sucks for modern gaming. it has HALF the power of the already wimpy 8600gt. if thats an x1650pro than its a little faster than the 8500gt. if its a x1650xt then its almost twice as fast as the 8500gt.

Look at this link, jjj807: those two cards compared. The X1650 Pro is way faster than an 8500GT, and the X1650XT is way faster than the X1650 Pro.

But, it does depend on the game, as always. In some games, an 8500GT is nearly as fast as the X1650 Pro. Well, unless you use higher resolutions, or enable AA, then the X1650 Pro does much better again, even with the games where it didn't have much of a lead.
