BFG 7800GTX SHIMMERS!!

🙁 OKay I have got this bfg that shimmers, i never had any sort of problems with nvidia cards untill this one. Makes me want to buy a ATI card again. I upgraded 3 times this year.ATI never had such a problem with their cards that ive tried. Tried all sorts of drivers, but it still doesnt solve the problem. But with the 79.11 it shimmers less than 81xx series. tried the 77.77 still shimmers. What do you guys suggest i do?

Use "high quality" settings in the control panels instead of "quality" which is default. Suppose to remove the shimmering with a performance hit.

Ok...vertical sync seems to solve the shimmering problem, but it takes a huge performance hit. normally i would get 7200 in 3dmark now 6400. Is it worth it?

yes, unless you play 3dmark religiously.

vsync just syncs each frame to each refresh I think, so it doesn't take a performance hit per se.

i guess what you were experiencing was tearing and not shimmering.

Are you sure you're not confusing shimmering with tearing? Because vsync really has nothing to do with shimmering.

If you insist on running with vsync enabled then also enable triple buffering and you'll get your performance back.

Yes NV cards shimmer, sometimes a lot. This is a fact. Its something you're going to have to live with. Unless like others have suggested, and its a vsync problem and tearing, and not shimmering.

Except TB doesnt work in DX games when selected in the drivers, sadly.
