bfg 6800s @ best buy or elsewhere

Here's the situation. I have no problem paying MSRP (or lower obviously) and I want one of the BFG Ultras (firmly want BFG brand). I am holding off on playing Doom3 or Farcry until I have AT LEAST a 6800 GT which my local best buy is getting in some on Monday, so I can have a GT next Tuesday. Optimally I want an Ultra, but we all know the story on the availability of these.

I am basically going to grab this GT because I don't see any Ultras on the horizon. Do any of you have any whispers of ETA on the Ultras that are compelling enough to have me hold off on getting the GT? i.e. if they are -reputably- rumored to be out in BB B&M stores WITHIN the next month or so it's worth waiting... otherwise I'll just be happy with the GT.

So any whispers on when the BFG Ultras will be hitting the streets in non-vaporware quantities?

If not, wish me luck grabbing one of the 2 GTs coming in on Monday 😉

Good luck buying a 6800GT 🙂

I'd say get the GT even if the Ultras were available, unless you really like to burn money.

As many have said, you can usually OC your GT to Ultra speeds if you find your GT too slow (but i mean really, who's gonna notice, save for benchmarking)

Too my knowledge best buy wasnt going to carry the 6800's 256 ddr3's... but I could be wrong, I myself went with a Gainward 6800 GT GS 2400 Ultra and have never looked back. Worth looking into if you dont mind waiting around for one to be in stock online.

Even at Frys where they get GTs (BFG, eVGA, PNY) like twice a week they are never in stock. I remember going into Frys and seeing some, walking around for a bit, then went to the scanner section (where the video cards are) than the GTs were gone.

Anyways, my BFG hit Ultra speeds no problem. It wasnt that big of a difference framerate wise so I put it back to stock OC. Unless you really dont care about how much you spend, I'd go with the BFG GT OC.

heh, was looking at mwave to see what they had available... i know the date is just to be safe but I find it ironically funny anyway.... probably about right 😛

3504020 XFX GEFORCE FX 6800 ULTRA 256MB DDR AGP 8X W/TV OUT/S-VIDEO & DUAL DVI Details (NO STOCK - Estimate arrival on 12/31/2009)

Last time i went to Fry's (Tuesday or so) they had a couple stacks of BFG GT's... probably like 12 cards in Fountain Valley, CA.

Sunnyvale Frys had probably 30 evga GTs on Thursday. I wonder how many they'll have when I go on Tuesday....

Picked up a GT at the City of Industry BB yesterday... The one in Chino Hills was supposed to have 2 but when I got there (way in the morning) they said they were still unloading from the truck.

Here's an update on the GT's @ BBY:
Best Buy should be receiving a large shipment of the 6800 GT's at the end of August, with the units reaching store shelves around September 10th. BFG itself is limiting how many units the different vendors receive. Most stores from what I have seen get 2 per shipment, although I have heard of some stores in the north-east getting more than that. If anyone in eastern NC needs one, PM me and I'll see what I can do. 😉 Good luck to all

BTW: The Ultra's are a waste of money IMO. The BFG does get a better cooling solution that requires two slots, and you probably get the better RAM (1.6ns or whatever). But I don't see it being worth an extra $100. What you MIGHT want to wait for (and remember the 30 day return policy on video cards) is the water-cooling bundle. BFG is planning to sell an Ultra model with an integrated water cooling unit (it might Ultra Extreme, cant remember) that will be available through Best Buy eventually. However, I would imagine it will be quite a while before those are available. The Ultra's themselves will not be in stores for quite a while, there's not even any plans to integrate them into the current store display space.August

welp, got the GT. They called my cell at 2pm today and said they unloaded the 2 they got and they'd hold one for me for 24 hours.... I was there within 5 minutes 😀

another hundred bucks later (doom3 + farcry), I need to hide my debit card from myself for a while...

I got the last 6800 in Edison NJ best buy.

I am not opening it as I got a X800Pro Vivo at compusa shortly later.

How did you find that out? Also, I presume you mean the end of August, or does putting up cards on store shelves really take 11 months?

P.S. No hostility meant.

First of all, sorry for the brain fart: I of course meant that BBY would receive a shipment at the end of AUGUST, not October. Second of all, the information I received said that the warehouses would be receiving the bulk of the GT's by 8/31. Stores would receive these by 9/10. The stores in eastern NC appear to have already received the bulk of this shipment. My store in fact got 4, which is a "large" shipment compared to the 2 cards that stores usually receive. This may different in your region, as the infromation that I received was specifically for my district. Your stores may have received the cards already, or will be receiving it. Have an employee at your local store do a search under "RSS" for the SKU 6684652. Ask them how many they have "In Transit" or "Inbound Allocated." If they have cards "In Transit," it means they will be receiving them on the next truck, or the one after. If they are "Inbound Allocated," there is no clear arrival date. Could be 2 days, could be 2 weeks. Check back the next day if they are "Inbound Allocated." If anyone REALLY REALLY wants one, PM me and I'll see what I can do to locate one at a store near you. Already helped one guy in Oregon get one 😛 and I live in NC. Anyway, good luck to all

Oh yeah, I found that out 'cuz I work @ BBY 😛
