BFG 6800GT SLI problems

OK, so i have this SLI rig thats been giving me headaches. At first I thought my problems were caused by overheating, but the problems still continue with the temps around the high 70s full load. Now, I think that the cards might be busted. I'm getting a D3DERR_INVALIDCALL error in 3dmark05 trying to run the 3rd test.

Also, while manually setting the SLI to SFR mode, my games/3dmark stutter graphically. framerates would fluctuate to a steady 40 fps, then to single digits every few seconds. This also happened in both AFR modes.

Should I just send these cards back in? Or am i missing something?

a google search seems to indicate a driver/dx9 error. have you updated the drivers? does one card work fine indepently?

also its more helpful to list all your system specs when posting a problem.

oh right, here's my specs:

AMD 3500+
MSI k8n Neo4 plat SLI
2 x BFG 6800 GT OC
2 GB corsair value select
OCZ 520w Modstream PS
2 x 160 GB Seagate SATA(ncq)

i've tried the latest drivers and the drivers that came with the video card. I fixed the stuttering problem with SFR or AFR, but I'm still getting this error in 3dmark05, regardless if i have 2 cards or one. ALtho, i don't think i tested both cards individually, can't remember right now 🙂

Ok, I called BFG and they're telling me my powersupply is not powerful enough??

Well the Modstream does lack +12V amps. 26A might be on the low side for SLI. A 520W Powerstream (33A @+12V) might be what you need.

I would research this further before you go and buy another PSU.

sounds like a driect X problem, completely reinstall it. I am running two 6800 ultra's, a FX 55 and two HD's, and have no SLI problems.

70 degrees is a bit much, did you have proper cooling?? both of mine run around 40-50c with watercooling OC'ed

70-80C @ full load is normal for stock cooled GT's.

I called OCZ and they told me that my modstream should be able to power my rig right, they said that the +12v had 28A. WHat am i to believe now?

Sounds like a PSU to me. This was my inclination from reading the first post. I'd try another PSU. Just because you have a great PSU doesnt mean it does not have a defect or weakness.
