What can/should I do? I called BFG they said they can RMA it because sometimes I have games crash and I'm thinking its the video card since everything else is fine. Only problem is they don't do advanced RMA so I can't really do that, I need a comp.

The idle temp is around 67 (48 ambient) and under load it goes up to 102 (65)

This IS way too hot correct?

What can I do to cool it off? I would prolly void the lifetime warranty right....

any aftermarket solution you use will void the warrenty so you are best off RMAing it, maybe pick up a cheap video card to use until the card gets back?

The problem "could" be that the thermal compound wasn't applied correctly at the factory. It might help to remove the heatsink, clean off the old thermal compound, and apply fresh thermal grease. Then attach the heatsink back on and tighten it up. That would certainly void the warranty, though. Then again, if you overclocked the card then the warranty is void anyway.

If youre sure whatever sensor you are using is detecting it correctly, id say definatly rma.

One note: Ive heard the BFG 6800GT's have had some cooling problems with the first batch of fans on them.

Well, either his card is truly overheating, or his sensor is defective. Either way, RMA.

What program are you using to check the temp? I would try checking it with a second program just to make sure that one's not reading it incorrectly.

Agreed.

I can't believe the card is actually running at those temps. My BFG 6800GT was getting up to 92c and then crashing a TON recently. I got fed up and went out and bought a VF700CU to cool it down. Now my LOAD temps barely get over 60 (my previous idle temps).

Funny thing is I was about to throw away the NV Silencer 5 I had on the card when I noticed all the fins where clogged with dust... now I know why it started to fail after so many good monthes. Oh well, now I have two perfectly good coolers. :)

You must live in a really dusty area like I do. Our dust is so bad here, its almost undescribable. I get big clogs of dust in my case after a while. Like, the dust creates its own filter....

The new place I live in is not very dusty but the old aparment (just moved) was VERY dusty. I just hooked up a makeshift filter out of furnace filter so my case should not get as bad now...

102C !?!? Whoah, time to RMA the card! That's WAY too hot. Possibly the heatsink isn't making good contact - I'd just play it safe and let BFG fix it for you, instead of risking anything...

something is definately wrong there.. i had the same problem, tho not quite as bad, and BFG said that wasn't normal.

there are some other things which could cause the issue, such as fan not spinning fast enough, case not getting enough cooling or poor circulation (anything in the slot next to it?), or the ambient temp of the room is too high.

ias you, i didn't want to go w/o a card for a week or two either so in the end i just replaced my stock cooler with an nv silencer, and it's been fine ever since.....

Not the case with eVGA though. As long as there is no visible damage and put back the original cooling, you can rma the card to evga. I asked this question last week on their support forum.

Okay see now this isn't my fault. I already placed the RMA and I was playing around with Riva Tuner. It turns out by default on the drivers i have installed (whlq certified from nvidia.com latest ones) the fan speed isnt running 100% under load.

I put it to be 100% under load and got it down to 90deg now.

Still I think this is high but whatever, you shouldn't have to find 3rd party software for this.
