Since these video card create a lot of heat, it is wise to leave the PCi slot next to it empty? I was going to buy the ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe for this reason(because it has 3 PCI slots and I need 2), but if it doesn't affect it much I'll get the DFI SLi-DR and avoid problems

I did just for the heat reason. Really no reason not to unless you need every slot.
I think you would be fine though as long as the case has good air flow.

On the DFI its gonna be a really tight fit, I dont think a pci card would do any harm. The Asus board is good but really stinks at overclocking.

Stinks how? My 3200+ (default 2000) is chugging along just fine at 2500.

Maybe not as good as others? "really stinks" is an overstatement. My 3200+ does 2540mHz and is prime stable. I would not say that a 27% OC "stinks."

I think the only difference with the DFI is that it allows super high memory voltages, which will improve overclocking the memory and overall performance, and maybe improve OC of the CPU depending on the memory.

Yes, you should be fine. But you could always get the MSI Neo4. IMO, much better layout than the DFI.
