I got a $250 gift card from Fry's for Xmas, and need a new videocard to power my Dell 2005FPW. The Fry's by me has the BFG 6600GT-OC in stock for $249.99. However, I saw that Outpost.com has the BFG 6800-OC for the same price. I asked my local Fry's if they carry the 6800-OC and they said ya, but they were out of stock and said it would be at least a couple weeks before they got some in.

Since both cards are the same price, is it worth waiting for 6800-OC or will the 6600GT-OC do just as well? I play my games at 1680x1050 with as high as I can go on my graphic settings to keep the games playable. My current 5700 w/256MB works at that resolution, but I have to keep my graphic settings low to keep the games playable. Will the 6600GT-OC work fine, or should I really wait for the 6800-OC? Will the 6800-OC get me a lot more FPS at that higher resolution, or just a little?

I'd wait to get the 6800 especially if they are the same price

i say wait, the fact that you have the possibility of unlocking the 6800oc to a 16/6 card is a nice bonus to warrant the wait. patience man.

About a 50/50 chance. Even without unlocking it the 6800 is a more powerful card.

I would wait to get the BFG 6800 OC. Installed mine yesterday and unlocked it to 16 pipes/6vp with no artifacting at all. Technically yes, it would void the warranty, but i would think it would be impossible for them to tell a softmod was enabled.
