BFG 6800 OC 128 Mb for $250 at outpost (9/28)

Nice deal. You can get it around $280 or maybe $270 at some other places. eBay is also a way to go for as low as $260 and sometimes $250 if you are lucky.

Can anyone tell me how this compares to Pine Technology Geforce FX 6800 256 MB (GDDR3) Graphics Card going for 280 + ship? Unfortunately, I know very little of video cards.. only that I want a 6800. Which one is the better deal, and why? Thanks in advance for all your useful pointers!

P.S. And here I was kicking myself for having missed this deal at local frys in labor day weekend for same price.. but now I don't know which one to get.. oh the horror..
 
Pine Technology is the parent company of XFX, where the hell did you see an XFX GT for $280?!? My money is on that being a listing error and it's actually a vanilla model.

Not sure that I've seen reviews on the XFX one but the BFG 6800 OC got a decent review from HardOCP (in August).
They compared it to the X800 Pro IIRC.
 
This is probably the best deal on a standard 6800 to be had at the moment, BFG lifetime warranty is the best in the business and they bundle these with Farcry adding some extra value as well.
 
lol, nm ppl.. i guess it was a spelling mistake. Checked the website again and they fixed the title to "GeForce 6800 128 MB DDR Dual D".. althought they still say * Memory Configuration: 256MB 256bit DDR Memory" in the item description.. so i'm still a bit befuddled. Is it 256 mb or 128? Is there such a thing as a 256mb plain 6800? As i stated before, i'm quite lost in the whole video card thing. Anyone offer some sagely advice? Is this card any good? i've read the review on the BFG 6800 OC and i kno 250 for it is a decent deal.. but know nothing about this other card. Enlighten me, please do. 🙂

The XFX standard 6800 is 128mb of 256bit memory. The XFX does have the advantage of dual dvi for running 2 digital LCD monitors, but otherwise the BFG is a better buy for the free game and the lifetime warranty, not to mention being cheaper hehe.
 
The other thing I was wondering about it is whether the OCing of the BFG is just a gimmick or if it has a noticeable impact on performance compared to other 6800 cards. And of course, the overclockability of the two cards might be different.

Yup, I picked this one up at BestBuy, and actually got the Doom3 AND FarCry with it. For $250, hmmm, I might just get another one. 😉
 
The Best Buy deal was a little while back for $299 including Doom3 free with it. The Doom3 was through them only and for that week only. I am unsure if Frys are offering these for the same price, if they do in your area and have it in stock then BB may pricematch it depending on their policy, some are so ymmv/strict you never know for sure. Can't hurt to try or look into it.
 
This is definitely a hot deal, but you better get it while it's in stock.

Outpost had the same deal for the same card not long ago, but it took them a while to get it back in stock.
 
I bought this card last time it was on sale at Outpost, and it does come with Far Cry. Great deal, I'm totally happy with the card.
 
OF F_CKING COURSE, I just ordered a 6800 from Monarchcomputers this morning, now its back in stock... Ah well, I trust Monarch WAAAAAAAAAAAY more anyway. Did cost me $25 dollars more though. 🙁
 
Outpost has them in stock now, mine shipped $278 after tax/shipping.

You may wanna check out FuturePC.com, they have the same card for $267 and quite possibly free ground shipping, no tax.
