BFG 6800 GT problems?

Hello all,

I have been having this recurring problem with my BFG 6800GT video card. Perhaps someone here can help figure it, because BFG tech support ain't helping much.

I bought the card last year in January to go with, then, new ASUS SLI Deluxe. For months it worked great, but then it started to act up. On a cold boot the darn card would not fire up. At first, I thought a capacitor on the mobo blew and wasn't supplying the current to the video card, so I RMA'd the mobo. Nope wasn't it, so I figured the video card went bad and RMA'd that. Success....for exactly three weeks. Once again it started to act up. Once again, I RMA'd the mobo and video card. Success...for two weeks this time.

Okay, so perhaps its my power supply. I went and bought an Antec 550 true power 2.0. No joy. Then went and bought an OCZ powerstream 520. Once again no joy. So, I went and bought a DFI and, for kicks, an ECS mobo. Nope no freakin luck! Back to the video card right? Well, I RMA'd the video card, and it worked...for exactly one day on the ASUS board, not once on the DFI, and two days on the ECS mobo. #$#$%$!

Now I am all set up to RMA the stupid piece of poop back to BFG, but before I do so. Am I doing something freakign wrong? Am I the only person who have had problems with BFG 6800GT cards? What are the odds that I get 3 bad video cards, 5 bad mobos, and 3 bad power supplies all at the same time? Oh did I also mention I tried other memory configs as well as brand? Does GOD hate me?

Any suggestions?

Tom

Wow, uhhhhh, ummm...

Man, you've replaced almost everything in your system at one point or another. There's got to be something else that's going on.

When you say "won't fire up" what exactly do you mean? What are you experiencing, no picture, crash on boot, etc?

Maybe you're missing a power plug somewhere, or configuring SLI incorrectly for single card setup.

Is your computer on a surge protector? Try getting a new one.

Case cooling?

Man, just clutching at straws here.

lol...yup, pretty much a one year old computer has components that are less than 3 weeks old in it.

Anyhow, what, I mean by not fire up, is that off of a cold boot the video card will not turn on. No video signal, no video card fan spinning, and no neato blue/red led lights that the card has. What the card will do is some of the neato led lights will turn on for a second, but then go out.

As to the SLI setup no joy either...and the ECS mobo is a single PCI-E slot.

As to the surge protector, just tried your suggestion from the best to the le cheapo CVS one. sigh.....

Thanks though

Tom

Ever thought it might be your Windows installation, memory modules or processor?

If your computer doesn't boot it might be any component's fault, try another videocard and try to isolate the problem.

You should've pinned down the root cause before rma'ing anything. Now who knows what has gone wrong. I've had no problems with my 6800gt.

So now you're back to square one.
