BFG 6800 GT OC and Doom 3

I am interested in upgrading my current video card (Geforce 4 Ti 4600) to a nice new BFG 6800 GT. My problem is that when I overclocked my Ti 4600, I ended up having some pretty nasty results in Doom 3 and since I know that the BFG is overclocked I was wondering if any BFG owners have experienced problems running Doom 3.

While I don't have a BFG, I have a GT clocked to Ultra speeds, and I've had no problem at all. It runs the game smoothly at the highest settings (1600x1200, Ultra quality, 16x AA). In fact, I had a problem running Far Cry smoothly on any setting, but have never had a problem running Doom 3.

No none at all. Mine I overclocked to 391/1000 from the default 370/1000. No artifacts at either setting. Supposedly people are overclocking a lot higher with no problems. Some people have had problems but they're usually related to drivers or something. None have been related to the 20 Mhz default BFG overclock.

Mine runs fine at 400/1100, but the gains over the stock BFG speeds is like 10% with my setup, so I didnt think it was worth it. Maybe when I get a faster CPU.

I used coolbits to auto detect the optimal frequencies. It picked 427 / 1100 I ran 3Dmark2003 with those settings (default test) and scored a 9917 but non-OC'd I scored a 9396 is that worth it?? It seemed stable, but seeing as how I just bought the card today, I put it back to the default setting. I'll see how Doom 3 runs, if it's bad I'll up the clock. From what I read though, Doom 3 should play fine with a GT 6800 even on the default settings.

Also, I read that flashing the BIOS might get more stable results than just straight overclocking. ?? I'm not gambling with a $400 card.

It plays more than fine on a 6800NU at default setting. You could even underclock the 6800NU and get nice results. Howz that for headroom!

Hmmm, I have to play with it more.

I have a 6800 GT OC and I put the settings on Ultra, res on 1024x 768 and put AA on 2x and the very first room you're in is choppy as hell ?? Weird. How can I see my frame rates displayed? There's a timedemo right? I might DL that and get that running smooth first.

I get 48fps at 1600x1200 Ultra Quality 8xAS 2xAA

AMD 3000 64
512 3200 DDR
BFG 6800GT OC 390/1100

Set for High Quality in display properties

Its playable enough.

BTW timedemo= ctrl+alt+~ then "timdemo demo1" w/o the quotations

Weird! What the heck am I doing wrong?

P4 3.0 GHz with HT 800 FSB
1 GB Corsair TwinX (400 bus in dual mode)
10k RPM SATA hard drive
BFG 6800 GT OC (default clock)

I run Doom 3 800 x 600 on High Quality settings, no AA in Advanced options and I get 35 FPS with Timedemo 1 ?????? What gives? I don't have anything else running in the background.

Oh, also DirectX 9C and nVidia drivers 61.77 (latest public release)

WHEW this is disappointing!

90% sure its your sound driver.

Disable sound and timedemo it again.

Well, for the record, I am a MORON. When messing with the settings of the card after I installed it, I changed AA & AF to 4X instead of "Application Controlled" LORD! I've been going ape over here, I even upgraded the BIOS on my system. BTW, what does the AGP/PCI MHz clock setting in the BIOS do? I can choose 66, 72 or 80 but I don't really notice a difference. This MSI mobo is nice, but MAN does the AMI BIOS lack documentation!

BTW, what a riot! Set AA and AF back to App controlled, I just ran Timedemo 1 at 54 FPS Ultra quality, 1024 x 768 with 2x AA HAHAHA I'm such a GOON! Well, now that it's midnight, I guess I can finally play Doom 3 !!! :)

Thanks for your help Rage187 ! I do think something may be up with my sound drivers though, because in 3DMark2003, I get AWFUL frame rates during the Sound tests ?? I have an Audigy 2. Damn drivers!

Yep I have a USB Audigy2 NX, the sound drivers were cutting my frame rates in half, upgraded them and everythng is kosher.
