Can someone please offer me some advice? I'm looking into getting a BFG 6800 card. Whether to stick with the 6800 with 128MB of RAM or the 6800GT with 256MB. Will there be any noticable difference with the 256MB RAM? I mean, there are many cards these days with this amount of RAM, and I've heard that most games don't even use the extra RAM. Also, I'm using an LCD display and am limited to 1280 x 1024, so I won't be able to go to the higher resolutions that the card offers. So I'm wonder now, because of that, wouldn't it be more feasible if I stick with the 128MB version?

I'm currently using the All in Wonder 9700 Pro - it's still a good card; I can play Doom3 on it easily. Just wondering how much more difference I will get if I get a BFG.

Any suggestion out there?

Thanks!

the 6800GT in addition to having more RAM also has more pipelines which will give u much faster performance than the 6800 normal.

go for the 6800GT(256MB),no two thoughts about it.

Well, it depends. Do you want to be able to play the newish games (D3, FC, T:V) with as little texture swapping as possible? How about a bit a future-proofing in terms of games that will be released soon? If these things are important to you, go for the 256meg version.

BTW, your 9700 Pro may SEEM like it's keeping up with D3. But when you play it on a 6800 GT 256 you WILL notice a difference. I went from a 9800 Pro to a GT and it was like D3 woke up from a nap. :)

I agree. It sounds like you have the money to get a GT, since you are considering it. I'd certainly get the GT. Doom 3 would have used all 512MB if a card had it. In fact, according to Id, playing D3 at the highest possible level requires a vid card with 512MB of vid memory. As far as I'm concerned, 256 is now the minimum if you are a gamer.

id even tossed in a scary warning when you try to turn on D3's highest detail setting. "This mode will screw your gaming experience if you don't have 512 on your video card..." ;)
