Just bought a BFG 6600gt for my sons computer. I works fine in window enviroment but in 3d games , not all, (quild wars) there was odd white spikes on the screen. Is it a bad video card?

Asus p4s533 motherboard
p4 2.8
300W power supply
BFG 6600GT AGP
1 cd burner
1 cdrom
2x 40gb 7200rpm hard drives
sound blaster live
floppy

I'd take a look at that psu, unless you have a brand name on it. 300w can run a 6600gt but from a good company. I'd also check temps, since it's happening in 3d games. The hsf could be making poor contact with the gpu and you may have to reseat/reapply.

Whenever you have a spike, minimize or exit out of the game and immediate check the temp in nVidia driver... 300w should be fine if you have one that isn't crap. Could also be drivers...

It did it from a cold start so I don't think it is overheating as I Have 3 fans running. 1 front, one side, both air in, with one rear, air out. I was able to try it in another computer, similair setup, but with an Enermax 420w power supply and there was no problem. The 300w power supply is a no name brand so I suspect that is what the problem is. Its off to the store to get a decent PSU.
