Well wsup guys, Im getting a new computer:
AMD 3200+ 939 Socket
1 gig of ram (dual channal)

and im wondering which graphic card will do best in Counter Strike Source. Its either a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB or BFG 6600 GT OC 128 MB.

Thx in advance guys!

don't even ask that question...you should search around first...many many many people ask...but before searching here, go to google and type in 6600gt vs 9800

BTW, the 6600gt will be about 20% faster in most cases. That, and it is more future proof with shader model 3.0 (9800 has 2.0), so it should be a no brainer.

sometimes it's hard to get straight answers from this people, so let me help: WHATEVER YOU DO DON"T GET AGP BOARD !!!!!! ONLY PCI-EXPRESS !!! So scratch off that 9800 crap, and get 6600GT PCI-EXPRESS for $150. (explanation: AGP is last gen technology, and it will COST YOU A LOT OF MONEY to stick with it as all the new cards are cheapr and faster and sometimes only availabele on PCI-Express).

The only case where you want to stick with AGP system is if you already had an expensive AGP video card, or a lot of PCI expansion cards that you can't live without for some reason (as pci-e motherboards only have a couple of old pci slots). Or if you had a really expensive AGP motherboard which you don't want to replace. In all other cases it's much better and cheaper to get pci-e system.

Funny, that's exactly what I did, and the first intelligible hit was this thread...

WTF, you were just singing the praises of AGP in that stupid thread you started in the HD forum about that preconfigured setup from Newegg. LOL.

that's for people that don't care about upgrading in parts. That system is good enough to last 3 years and then you could get a new one and sell, donate or give the old one away to friend/relative or family member. Mind you, buying a completely new system every few years is sometimes a lot cheaper than keep upgrading parts. Also note that despite the fact the pci-e video cards already offer more choices and generally cheaper prices and better value, the 6800GT is an exception, where it's AGP version costs less and is a better value.

AGP is not dead yet.

I definitely expect the next gen HIGH end cards to be released in AGP before or at the same time as the PCI-E counterparts..

after the next refresh they should start to fall off.. Definitely another year or two.

for futureproffing, yes pcie. but don't be fooled: agp 8x limits haven't even been reached. not even doom 3 or far cry make full use of 8x, and won't for another year. 16x won't be needed for a few years. by then, u might as well get a whole new computer. but agp is not outdated, it is not going to be, and most people have it. if you have agp, don't spend money on a pci e one because its better. pcie is a good marketing srategy though 🙂

There is no such thing as AGP 16x. Also how do you know that the limits will be reached in a year. The AGP bandwidth really isn't going to help or do anything unless you are forced to use the AGP Aperture.
