well....i doubt it!! that card wont be able to play any new games properly especially any DX9 games....spend a little more and get a 9600XT or even a 9700pro for about $70 used.

No, it really won't play Half-Life 2 very well at all.

Indeed, even Doom 3 (which that generation of cards was specifically built for) is still going to leave you stuck at 640x480 resolution/low details.

Half-Life 2 on that card will run 640x480, ultra low details, in DX7 mode. It looks a little bit better than HL1 that way. A little.

You really do want at LEAST a Radeon 9600xt for Half-Life 2. You can get them new for under $100.

Come on guys, for 29.99 with DX8/not so much 9 support, this card isn't that bad of a deal. It's leagues ahead of a radeon 7000, which is usually about that price. I generally tell people to avoid the fx series like the plague, but for 29.99 and a BFG card, this isn't too bad.

Yes please put the price into consideration...its either this or the $150 AR BFG 6800 OIC

Well, THAT card will have roughly 15-20 times the performance of a 5500 OC at 1280x1024 in Half-Life 2.

15-20 times the performance...for 5 times the cost. Hmmmm....I feel a no brainer.....

Time for dissapointment ;)

For $30 it shouldn't be that bad but IMO it will leave you feeling like you should have spent a little more, especially on HL2. Yes, you'll be able to play it but you'll be left with a drab game with very little if any eye candy. I had a 9700 pro before my 6800 and it played HL2 great and I bought it used and it served me well and is still, I believe, serving the new owner good as well. You really shouldn't be afraid of buying used items. If the person has good Heat and takes care of his/her items theres really not that much to worry about. And for $70 for a 9700 pro that you'll use for six months max anyway, what can you lose? :)

But anyway..let us know how the card performs.

refurbed 9800 pros can be had for a little over $100 at newegg, but it sounds like you've made up your mind before you even asked the question. btw enjoy hl2 at 6x4 and dx7 lol

Don't listen to these guys, you'll probably be able to play Half Life 2 at 1024x768 pretty effectively if you run the directx8 path....at least my Ti4800SE did but thats a bit faster than yours so I'm guessing you can play at low to mid details and still have smooth gameplay.

HL2 will automagically select DX8 mode for all FX cards, and is actually pretty good at detecing good playable settings for the computer you have. you may still need to tweak though, but DX8 will be selected for you automatically.

yes you A64 3200 will be held back by this card, but im sure if its a BFG, and its pre oc'd i reckon you should oc it further and get maximum bang for buck

dont listen to the people who say that card will only run hl2 at 640*480. my gf4mx runs it at 1280*1024 with high details on dx7 mode and it never goes under 50 fps
