Out of curiosity i tried out my hd4000 igpu on my i7 to see how it fares in this game.

Pistol only Locker match with 64 players and these are the results....

1280x720 all minimum settings 25 min/33 avg/42 max
1280x720 all minimum 75% scale resolution 36 min/44 avg/61 max

Very playable and enjoyable. Doesn't look all that great but kinda fun to see what it can do,perhaps a 800x600 run will be in order soon and i could update this Op

Perhaps my time giving this a try and the information is useful perhaps to someone in between gpus perhaps or someone waiting on a rma.

Considering it runs at 720p 60fps on the XB1 and 900p 60fps on the PS4, that's really not that great if you think about it.

so you fired up the game at ass ugly settings and ran like crap? you then lowered the resolution scale to make it even uglier and it was somewhat playable? lol ok

1280x720 is the lowest 16:9 resolution my t.v supports, think most gamers are going 16:9 these days so dropping the scale resolution is the only way to boost frames unless you wanna go with a 4:3 resolution in which case you can choose 1024x768 as a last resort.

1024x768 with 100% scale resolution was equally as playable as 720 with 75% scale resolution but that is a 4:3 resolution.

I have a gtx770 prime time,i have had my old 7850 fail on me and i got stuck on hd2000 when i had my i5 so i had to see what hd4000 did in case i ever had a issue with the 770 which is unlikely.

HD4600 is basically like a 7900GTX, PS3/Xbox360 versions are basically running the same settings as you are, so basically you are enjoying last-gen experience :D

strange comparison, have you looked at the consoles GPU specs?
even the Xbone have something faster than a 7770, and it's a fixed spec with custom OS, you would never expect an HD 4000 to perform anything like it, the only thing to compare is to the PS3 and Xbox 360, it run at 30 FPS max, around 720P and cannot handle 64 players MP, only 24!? (but I think it's mainly due to memory and CPU, not the GPU)

it's a totally different experience because of the 64 players MP

Thank you, I like seeing how well weak hardware performs.
I hate Intel's naming though, at first I thought it was about AMD's HD 4000 series;)

To me it is really about how well the engine scales. Other engines may give comparable or even better visuals than Frostbyte, but I dont think any of them scale so nicely with a wide range of hardware.

Average is 40 FPS it's pretty good for an integrated solution.
and what about the other graphic settings in your Battlefield 4?
If you set everything to low (min) you will boost your fps but it will look terrible.

I stopped gaming for a little bit while I was with my ex. I just didn't have a whole lot of time. Well given that she was on my computer all the time, I figured I'd take the video card out of it just to save on some power and hardware; I'd just reinstall when I needed to.

So on the rare occasion that I would load up a game, I found my HD4000 to be surprisingly potent and fun to toy around with. Starcraft II? No problem, even at 1080p. Half-Life 2? No problem (I was going through Half-Life Black Mesa at the time).

Now when I started playing PS2 afterwards? Haha, I put that dGPU right back in. But for the little while, gaming on the HD4000 was actually kind of fun.

I think the point is to show that the game will run on integrated graphics. With the improvements that intel has been talking about an the integrated gpu it will probably be enough for someone who very casually plays pc games.

Part of the problem though is that you can only get the HD4600 on the highest end cpu. I think the vast majority of cpu buyers in that class either dont want to game at all or will have a discrete card.

Haswell Core i3 has HD4400 and 4600. In fact, HD4400 has the same EUs as 4600, the only difference is lower frequency of the iGPU.

But I have my doubts as to how he would play BF4 MP 64 player on last years HD4000. Frame rate is not the only thing that matter in BF4 MP, you may have 40fps but frame time could be off the scale.

The same graphics settings...obviously a Haswell is miles ahead in terms of hit collision and floating point calcs compared to a P4/Athlon 64 era CPU so it can handle more players.

I remember the HD4600 performing better and faster than my Geforce GT430... that's not exactly "terrible"...

...still, I wish it'd dramatically improve AND be optional with more CPUs not having IGP at all (or maybe "fast" and "absolute basic" instead of the several confusing speeds available in the AMD/Intel world today!)

a gt430 and 4600 perform about the same overall which is not saying much as the gt430 was a horrible card.

"Horrible"...? Come on... not everyone needs a Titan. ;)

That's not all that bad for FREE.

It ran Diablo3 at nearly full detail... that's enough for a lotta' folks. Not everyone has the same need for 1080P at max details as you.
wtf are you rolling your eyes about? thats great if you thought the gt430 was ok but the reality is that it was a poor card overall for gaming especially at the most common resolution. heck it was not much faster than low end cards from 2 or 3 years ago when it came out. so AGAIN saying the hd4600 performed similar to it is not impressive at all.

Worth testing because if your GPU does die and you don't have a replacement it could be awhile before you can get it fixed. @OP don't listen to the other morons and thanks for sharing ;)

I think we all agree that HD4000 isn't going to be an amazing gaming experience. No need to be rude or anything. Is HD4000 painful to use? Maybe. For me, yes it would be. But 720p low detail? Maybe possible. Dunno. I wouldn't want to do it, that's for sure. If for no other reason than 720p being an eyesore.

Maybe he's testing it out so he can sell his card for a newer one? A lot of people use iGPU as a stopgap in between GPU upgrades.
