I asked many questions on the forum for the past few weeks trying to assemble the best components for my computer refresh. (Got at i7-4770k on the way with an H100i push/pull)

I want to be able to max out bf4 on triple screen running 5760x1080 with best price possible (CDN Newegg.ca/tigerdirect/ebay). The complete set (2 cards or more) should not go too much over 1000$

I know it will not happen with a single GPU and I'm willing to wait up to mid-december for the purchase. The initial plan was to go CF with dual r9 290x but the delay seems to grow everyday to the release of non-ref.

I was wondering if EVGA GTX 780 FTW ACX SLI would be the best way to go looking at the situation.

That is a hard one, R290x reference is pretty bad, two would be woeful no doubt. Plus there is the unknown of Mantle...

Meanwhile with the 780 you get aftermarket, cheaper price tag, and six codes to use/sell.

My only concern with 780 SLI is I'm not exactly sure how it stacks up OC vs OC with the reference R290x at that resolution.

I am not too heavy on OC, I begin with my i7 since I have a LC solution fort it. Not sure I would try with a SLI/CF since I don't plan to put extra cooling solutions around GPUs unless the onlyway to achieve 5760 for a resonable price is going OC.

290nonX in Crossfire @ $800. You can do your own custom cooling solution if you want to and don't want to wait for AIB cards. 2x Gelid coolers for another $100 (2x$50). Still $100 cheaper, better support for the game including Mantle, and faster performance even w/DX11.

The only kink I can see in the plan is if your mobo doesn't have enough spacing between the PCI-E slots. In which case you might reconsider the ACX solution and go reference coolers.

It's also $50 more than quality aftermarket 780s like the HoF, which doesn't require blistering fan noise for similar performance, they also come with 3 decent titles including Batman and AC each. HoFs aren't low clocked rev 1 cards they compared the r290 series to.

It's not so cut and dry, especially when you start talking about adding $60 coolers you might as well just get the faster out of box, faster and quiter overclocked 780 Ti.

There are pros and cons for both.
