Collision detection for the knife SUCKS! It seems like the only time it ever works is if someone is right in front of you, both are standing BTW, and you stab. Creeping up on someone in the prone position and stabbing at them doesn't seem to work.

I believe the demo is free of the spyware... and as far as "spyware", it uses your IP address to deliver ads by region. No personal data is recorded.

Holy crap, people, the ads shouldn't make or break the game for you. And I haven't encountered any bugs yet, so I'm happy 😀.
 
Anyone find it odd that in the year 2142 there's no directed energy weapons? No lasers, phasers, plasma cannons, disrupters, no ZATs, no staff weapons, etc. Why is there a metal knife? Think maybe we'd have sort of lighter saberish weapon by then?

Why are we still using metal bullets, fired from chemically powered weapons that over heat and have no accuracy?

 
I think it's what BF2 should have been. On the surface it seems similar, but the gameplay, graphics, and collision system work much better. I'm having a great time playing it and haven't had any problems knifing all sorts of folks - maybe you just aren't good at games?

That's what I think too!

I never played BF2 on the PC so BF2142 was the first I have experienced and I have to say, it's one of the best online shooters I have ever played. I love it more than Halo 2! And my new Dell XPS is shootin' out massive frame rates! And the Titan mode is such a major blast!!!

I have to agree with the OP though, I have played close to 30 online games on BF2142 and had only 2 knife kills.

That's what I think too!

boredhokie, I do find the rest of the collision system to be a large improvement over that of BF2. But the knife thing is ridiculous; I used to enjoy knifing the crap out of people in BF2, for some reason you need to be ON the person you want to knife for it to work in 2142 though. I'd have 150 rather than the 15 knife kills I already have if I didn't need to be within 1 micron of the person I'm trying to stab.
 
Hey, want to start an ATOT clan? I was in a clan with a couple of friends in BF2, but not all of them have 2142 and the ones that do weren't too devoted to the clan anyways. What do you all say?
