BF2142 will not connect to 'ea master server'

I've spent more than enough time with EA technical support, and i'm tired of it. When i first got bf2142 it worked fine on my desktop; i could log in with no problems. But, after spring break, i came back to my dorm and it wouldn't work. I installed it on my laptop, and it works FINE on there. But, when i try to get online on my dektop, i can't get past the login screen. It simply hangs on the 'contacting ea master server' dialogue box.

I've been through all the typical fixes. Uninstalling it, deleting the reg key, installing it over, disabling firewalls and all other extemporaneous apps under Task Manager. I've also reinstalled my nvidia mobo and video drivers, but bf was working BEFORE on the older drivers. I also looked into checking the ports for my computer, but didn't get into that much...

i'm running A64 3000, 7900gt, dfi lanparty sli-dr, 1 gb ram, 2 80gb hds in raid.

One other note. I am on a campus network, where IT provides support for all laptops, but are a little stingy with nonschool issued desktops. i've never had any trouble before, so i don't know if that's a factor or not.

Thanks in advance anandtech.

well, just let me ask a question. Do you by any chance have PeerGuardian 2 or Firewall installed? If you made no changes between the time your BF2142 was working and now, then its most likely your school has blacklisted the server, or something similar to that.

sorry didn't see the software forum. i'll call IT and see what's going on i guess. i do have a question. does http://www.canyouseeme.org/ check ports reliably? if there's ports open on my laptop using wifi that are not on my desktop (LAN line), can i open them and expect the game to work?

I guess the only other odd thing is b4 the driver reinstalls, when BF worked, i had random, rare blue screens. After the driver reinstall, no blue screens.

FYI I was having this same problem from sunday until tuesday, it seems to have been resolved now. Apparently EA were having trouble with gameservers running with gamespy or something, and it was more than just you and more than just BF2142 that was affected (I couldn't get into BF2 either). Try it again tonight, if it keeps dying, reinstall the game and repatch then retry.

HOWEVER
If you're on a campus IT network it may be impossible entirely as they often clamp down hard on all non-essential ports and services, best bet is to try a few other games and contact your sysadmin.
