Well the subject pretty much says it all and I'm downright confused as to how to go about fixing this issue. If I kill TeamSpeak and start the game then it runs just fine. However if I have it running the screen goes to black after the CD check like normal before playing the intro credits then it goes straight back to desktop. No error is displayed on screen although windows plays the sound for an error there's nothing in the event log. I have the most up to date drivers for my system including the audio card. I will grant that there are beta drivers for my card available but I'm extremely wary trying to run those on a stable system. Here are my system specs:
CPU: P4 3.0GHz HT enabled (Northwood)
RAM: 2GB PC-3200
HDD: Seagate 120GB SATA (I have LOTs of network storage)
Video card: BFG 7800 GS 256MB RAM
Sound card: SB Audigy 2
Power supply: PC Power & Cooling 420 Watt
OS: Windows XP SP2 with all of the latest hotfixes & patches installed (at least as of Tuesday)
I should also note that this is the only game I have played so far that requires me to run it as an administrator otherwise it does not detect a CD in the drive. Could I play without TS? I suppose although all of my friends use TS for communications so I'd prefer not to try.
I've tried lowering the settings as low as they can possibly go and yet the same thing happens. I thought it might be a conflict with the BF2142 VoIP so I disabled it and the same thing happens. Just so I'm clear as to what happens when I start the game when I have TS running:
1) The mouse cursor goes to the hourglass icon
2) The mouse cursor goes to the spinning CD for disc check
3) Screen goes black before initial EA credit movie loads (normal)
4) Windows plays the exclamation sound (audio queue of an error normally) & nothing involving the game starts
5) Back to desktop with BF2142 no longer running.
I don't see anything in the event logs at all nor do I see a minidump from BF2142. I do have the most recent version of both BF2142 and Teamspeak as well. I have gone so far as to follow the instructions for a complete manual uninstall and then I reinstalled it with the same problem.
I'm really beginning to think that the latest set of Windows updates have caused this problem but I really do not know which one did the trick. Any ideas?
