Like Frackal said, so does having a better computer and video card. Transparency AA is an advantage as well, and having hardware that can do AA is another "advantage" that can be dependent from system to system. If DICE/EA want to equal the playing field, they need to stop making computer games and stick to consoles where everyone does have the same thing.

I have never heard of this, but DiCE can claim that all they like because it's not true and I don't care.

Exactly, not to mention that people who turn the settings down to minimum in Battlefield 2 actually do have a huge advantage. When I fried my X1800XT, I was stuck with an X300SE and an X550 as back-up, and I had to turn pretty much everything down to low for any respectable sort of framerate.

The result was that all building shadows were gone meaning I could see every single player trying to use any sort of stealth, grass and bushes were also gone meaning that I could see any players trying to prone and pick people off. My KDR actually increased with a rubbish graphics card and lower framerate because of this, so if DiCE/EA want the game to be fair then they better get rid of half the settings menu too.

The only reason there is no 16:9 or 16:10 support in Battlefield 2 is pure laziness on behalf of the devs, nothing more.

The BF series has been my most played game since it came out, and even before. BF2 has been my favorite game since I first played it. I probably play it 50% of my total gaming time. That being said, not having Widescreen REALLY annoys me. I dont see why they are so stubborn about this issue. You can force a WS res, but since you cant change the FOV, you dont get any more image. So annoying.

Still yet, Ive been playing the 2142 beta, and like it a lot. So of course Ill be buying this. BF2 is the main reason I changed from NV, to ATi. Better frames, and better IQ. If not for this game, I probably wouldnt have made the switch.

Ive always liked them pretty well. But like you, I do even more now. Using settings I use, is how I want games tested. Or at least do it both ways. Having settings at stock, is probably not how someone is going to be playing after spending $800+ on video cards.

While I did like the original BF series, BF2 did nothing for me. Enemy Territory however was one of my favorite games. If they maintain that gameplay with Quake Wars I will be hopelessly addicted.

It's a <b>Tuning Beta</b> that needs more development than tuning with less than a month before release. It still contains all of the bugs that BF2 contains: Red Tag Bug, CTD, Server Crashes, etc.

BF2142 is just a bad reskinned BF2 mod. Point of Existence is a more well done mod and you can get it for free. EA/Dice should hire the POE development folks. If people buy BF2142, EA/Dice will never change their ways.

I agree, POE2 is an amazing mod and you can tell that a hell of a lot more heart went into it than into Euro Force / Armoured Fury and 2142 (which should be an expansion itself!!)

yeah, it doesnt make any sense. CSS and a bunch of other games have native WS modes, and i dont see all the widescreen players owning me. having a larger screen doesnt help you if you suck 😛

They bought out the guys that made DC for 1942, look how far it got them with BF2 😀

The problem with EA is they are a cheapskate corporation that doesnt care about the gamer. They are out to make money, yes, but id wager theyd make a lot more money if they made a quality game rather than slopped together code and a patch once every 8 months.

Their QC validation process basically consists of a beta where they fix major crashes, then a launch.

Where does it say it is made or sponsored by EA? If EA had anything to do with it, they'd slap thier horrid logo on every picture and open the site with their whisper of "We're mentally challenged"..........I mean....."Challenge Everything".

Did you really think EA/DICE was going to be working that hard to bring you another big expansion of BF2 (BF 2142) and provide you with the most anticipated multiplayer game since BF2's rumors? They can barely fix a game they've already produced, let alone make a new one.

I've experimented with that as well and know exactly what you mean. The game becomes basically a simulator with no chance to emerse the player in realism or detail. The game is tremendously simple and requires no concentration when scanning a landscape with your eyes, aiming at a target in front of foliage, etc.

I gotta agree with the people that say the BF franchise is garbage as of late. BF2 is full of bugs that EA/DICE haven't addressed or rather haven't been able to due to their incompetence. Every new patch they issue fixes one problem and introduces three new ones and the same thing seems to be happening to that rush job of a "game" they call BF 2142 (even the point of existence 2 mod is more polished than this turd). Now coupled with the fact that EA will be putting real world ads in BF 2142 and their other games just makes you finally realize that their games are simply not worth playing because its not about releasing quality software for DICE/EA anymore, its all about maximizing profits. Just look at what DICE/EA did to BF2, they introduced all these little booster packs and fragmented the community and then screwed vanilla BF2 players over because they didn't have access to some of the new unlocked weapons unless they forked over $10 for the booster pack.

I'd advise everyone that's sick of this to vote with their wallets and avoid BF 2142 or any other future DICE game and go with the better alternatives like Quake Wars or Frontlines: Fuel of War (which is being made by the same team that created Desert Combat).

I don't care if EA addresses the issues, the consumers will address them by not buying EA merchandise. Whether EA would want to fix things or actually do things right will be up to them. We'll be doing our part right by not buying--and therefore supporting--things that are half-a$$ed.

No they wont, more than enough people will still buy 2142 no matter what petitions are signed, boycotts are formed, etc.

I will be buying 2142. I never had problems with the BF2 series crashing, or anything else. The two main problems I have with BF2, is the no WS support, and the crappy server menu. One of those has been fixed to me. Sadly, WS is still not there. You used to be able to edit the video.con for the FOV in BF 1942, but then they stopped letting you do that. Which sucks. Luckily, my LCD is big enough that I can play at 1600x1200 and still have it full sized. Or play with it stretching the huds.

I will buy Battlefield 2142 if too large a proportion of the Battlefield 2 community migrate, as the Battlefield 2 community has shrunk drastically in the last twelve months as it is, but generally I'm of the opinion that Battlefield 2142 is nothing more than an expasion pack and should be sold and applied as one. 🙁

Same here. DICE/EA is very incompetant at maintaining the game and addressing major issues such as widescreen. Instead they focus on milking the franchise with stupid booster packs and so on. I hope to see this franchise fall and give them a reality check.

I've uninstalled BF2, have no interest in BF2142 and will wait for QW:ET.

I'm just glad there will finally be some competition... Quake Wars: ET and Frontlines both look awesome. I think 2142 will come out before both of them though, which sucks.
