I am looking to upgrade my PC to handle BF2. From the sounds of it my system will not be able to handle it very good. I am a value concious buyer and I want my purchase to be noticeable and worth the money. What are your thoughts?
My system is as follows:

Epox 8RDA+
Athlon 2400+ XP (no overclock)
1024 MB PC3200
WD 120GB SE
Radeon 9800 Pro
Audigy2
Antec 480W PSU
LiteOn 16x DVD
LiteOn 52xcdrw
Viewsonic 19" P95f

Your system, right now, will be able to handle BF2. You will have to turn some of the details down, probably all the details down, but it will run decently. If your still not sure, try running the demo and tell us how the performance is!

If you do wish to upgrade, it is almost impossible to tell you what to get without an estimate of how much you want to spend!

1200 would be a reasonable price that I could afford..... Would require a KVM switch and router. Though cheaper is always better as I said I like to buy best price/performance. I tried out the demo and it's not the fastest game in the world on my system. I will tone down the settings tonight and see how it goes. I may try to wait until the fall to upgrade. When is Microsoft 64 bit O/S to be released to the masses and full driver support to happen?

My system is pretty similar to yours, and I can run BF2 just fine. True, the graphics are set on low, but I'm too busy killing stuff to worry about how detailed the trees are.

You shouldn't have a problem running BF2 with that setup. My xp2400 (slightly overclocked), 1 Gig ram and 9800 pro run bf2 at 1024x768 with many setting on high/medium.

Not that there's anything wrong with a few upgrades :)

Check out the thread in Software about BF2 configs.....

I have a system that runs BF2. It runs every setting on low at 1024x768. It is managable and enough to be competitive. I know because I've tried it. But I prefer my new system of course.

The slow computer specs that matter.

Athlon XP 1800+
1GB ram. Not DDR, its old SDR.
Radeon 9600XT
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

In conclusion. Your PC is good for BF2.

There's an option for general graphics settings, and that's set on low. I believe the resolution is 1024x768.
