My friend is unable to play bf2. It displays the initial bf2 logo, then goes to full black screen, and then crashes to desktop. After failure to start, task manager doesn't show any indication of bf2 running. We've updated the graphics drivers to 77.77 (cleaned with DC first, of course), reinstalled bf2, and updated to the most recent version to no avail. Any help would be apprieciated.

Here are his specs:

A64 3000+ Winchester oc'ed to 2.4
DFI NF4 Ultra-D
Crucial Ballistix 2x512
eVGA 6800GT
OCZ Powerstream 420
ATi TV Wonder Elite
XP-120 w/Panaflo Ultra High Flow 120mm

Only problems I had like that was from running a refresh fix that didn't jive with the resolution/refresh rate that the intro movies run at.

Ive heard that overclocking on some systems makes BF2 unstable, so try non OCing and see if that works.

We have since tried another pc that we know runs BF2 perfectly well on the monitor of the problem pc. We now are wondering if the monitor could be causing the problem.

The model number of his monitor is: SDMHS95PS (Sony 19" LCD)

We have now tried another monitor and the problem persists. My friend is ready to take a baseball bat to his beautiful systems....

This is a common problem when switching from a CRT to an LCD with BF2. Backup any controls settings and then delete the profiles ("default", "001", "002", etc). After the game starts back up, exit and then restore your controls.

Yay EA.
