I like the game but I have never seen anything like this before. With my old system it never crashed but I didn't play with the 1.3 patch. With my new E6400, DS3, 2GB patriot system it crashes constantly!

It crashes to the desktop, it restarts the computer, it restarts the computer when I quit, etc etc.

Is it the patch? Is it the servers I'm playing on? Is it my new hardware?

This is ridiculous. Any help would be appreciated.

It started to crash on me the moment I upgraded my system.. Apparently there is a Dual Core issue. You need to alt tab del out of BF2 once signed in and set your affinity to only have 1 Core running.

1.3 introduced many CTD buggs. Computer restarts is a whole different story, I would check my temps for that.

Oh yeah, crashes all the time for me. Usually its just the server though. Ive even counted how many times its crashed. Its a solid 3 zillion times.

How do I set it to single core? Is that on a per-application basis?

My temps on the CPU are in the 40's. I'm pretty sure it's not the videocard since I've used two different ones. I could have sworn it was having issues with both.

BF2 is the buggiest game I've ever played but I still like it. I should be shot.

In task manager, right click on the process and go to 'set affinity...' and you can select it. If you can't set affinity I believe you are missing a patch although I won't be much help in tracking it down (because I can't remember which one it was). But, I'd like to add that I've never had to turn off dual core support before.

You don't need to set the affinity to single core. I have a dual core. Just be sure to have the AMD dual core fix and the MS Dual Core Hot Fix (sorry, I don't have the links, but they should be easy to find with google). I have a dual core and I only CTD once every few months. Loosing the server connection, that's another issue! LOL

If you do want to still set it, it is set in the task manager.

It crashes maybe 5% of the time when I click Join Game, otherwise fine.

I saw that thread at {H} about dual core gaming fixes for AMD systems. There are specific patches for that, but what about for Intel systems? Setting the affinity for a AMD system appears to be a last resort.

personally, I'll remember it as one of the games that can crash quite a lot - it can be very touchy, but hey, thats just BF2 .. every project has its own pros/cons which affect people differently.

You may want to read this. I've done all steps. So far, it just solves the dual core problem, but I still get random CTD's, but that's because its 1.3 and 1.3 SUCKS.

If 1.4 doesn't solve my CTD problem, I will probably throw in the towel.
