BF2 Slowdown? Here's how I fixed my issues

I was ready to chuck BF2 out the window altogether. That damn game has its hooks in me, so I built this computer around playing it (shut up) but when I cranked the settings up to high, I got ridiculous slowdown.

Changing the resolution didn't help, because my Video card should be able to handle it on 1600x1200 which is what I play at. Having read a million posts regarding 1gb of RAM vs. 2GB of RAM, I figured since I only had one gig, it was all of those "high" detailed textures being loaded into memory, I tweaked all of the other settings down to medium and low, and as long as those textures were at high, I was still experiencing massive slowdown at the beginning of the round, here's how I fixed it.

1.) I killed all of my extraneous background programs...all of them. Including some kind of printer software that was running in the background from my all in one. That seemed to help quite a bit.

2.) I disabled a bunch of services that I didn't need. Depending on what you have running, this can be a good way to free up some memory. A fantastic website can be found here at Blackviper.

3.) Turn off AF...AKA "texture filtering" in the BF2 video options, it smoothes things out a little.

4.) If all fails, bump your textures down to medium, in the heat of a gunfight you probably wont notice the blurring of that Blackhawk dashboard.

I hope this helps :)

Ok your 7800GTX shud be able to handle it like nothing, you turning down the settings is an embarrasment...you REALLY need that 2GB ram, if you get it, you will be able to run with max settings.

I DO run with max settings :) Well, I have AF turned down, but I can't tell a difference.

If you have enough bloat to slow down that system then I recommend a reformat. My computer has been on for over a day and I have ran so many apps my memory usage is at 150. Once I close firefox itll shring to 110 - other than that there isnt much for me to gain by closing processes.

That's good, but maybe someone out there has some processes they never thought to take the time to look at, but good work on memory usage.

I also read that putting your page file on a secondary HDD helps with performance. I tried it and I actually noticed quite a difference.
