BF2 should not get a retail expansion

Battlefield 2 would be better off having occasionally released new content, or downloadable expansions instead of retail ones.

When you have retail expansion packs for a game like Battlefield, not only does it split up the player base, but often the expansion leaves just a temporary mark in history.

Think Road to Rome and Secret Weapons of WWII.

I don't see how a strictly downloadable expansion would be beneficial over a retail expansion. Downloadable or retail, it will still split the player base, because you will have people buy it and people who wouldn't.

Actually, the best way - in my opinion - is to wait until interest in the initial release starts to slip. THEN you release a retail expansion. This gets you more content and it reunifies the player base.

dont think that could ever happen

and EA seem to have a knack for breaking it even more when they release patches....i mean C n C generals played fine out the box, with the latest patch i cant play anything higher than a 4 player map.

I know what you mean by download...as in free

Much like the 1.2 patch for BF:V that added the three new maps and didn't cost a thing except the time to download.

tru dat. half the time I can't even get it to work, and not at the settings that my computer is capable of. I went back to COD:UO until they come out with a patch.

Well, it wouldn't at all be the size of a retail expansion.

And it wouldn't branch the game in any way, it would expand on what's there.

Along with server settings to enable/disable content, and filters to allow/disallow these servers to show up in the server browser.

No separate CD's or DVD's, no separate executables or anything. It would all be there in the same game.
