BF2:SF Great expansion but only 60 servers?

I uninstalled BF2:SF about 3 weeks ago because I thought it was causing connection problems. It turns it was actually just Comcast acting up. So I reinstalled this, created a new character to get a fresh start and I'm so blown away how much more fun it is that vanilla BF2.

I hardly ever played the Assault class before this now I'm hooked like crazy. My first unlock was the G3 and I have such a riot with Assault. You get a G3, regular nades, 4 flashbangs and a sweet grappling hook. (I really prefer the regular nades over a launcher). You talk about a nice variety of tools to work with. I can't even stand playing vanilla now especially since you have to use the F2000 to get flashbangs else you get that 1 uber smoke grenade *groan*. Plus I really miss my grappling hook, it gives the Assault class a lot of spice in BF2:SF.

However, I'm worried. There's only 60 servers that show up on my list when I do an update. I get the feeling most of the BF2 population is stuck on vanilla and probably forever playing Karkand where they can spam grenades, not talk to their squad and use no strategy whatsoever.

When EA releases an expansion to a buggy game that will probably never be fixed it tends to turn off a lot of people from paying more money for the possibility of even more problems. Can't blame them really... I don't even play BF2 at all anymore because of how messed up it was. I'm sure once it drops in price or something there'll be more interest.

awesome post! thanks for adding that!

anyway, a bunch of servers that i used to play SF on have gone either euro or armored fury to run the new maps. however there are still a few quality ones out there, but unfortunately the in game browser isn't the best. did you try doing a google search? i know i've found a few quality clan servers that way (even tho all i play on lately are the 'war is hell' servers).

Yeah the number of servers is pretty disappointing. Still there's usually about 5-8 that I ping well to, are large servers, and play often at. I guess my biggest problem is that of the good ones still there, they mostly play Warlord and Ghost Town. Don't get me wrong, these are my favorite SF maps, but I do like the night maps every now and then, and the Iron Gator map is pretty decent (tho I could care less about armor-happy Surge).

I'll still be playing SF. I play SF about 90% for every 10% I play regular BF2. And yes, the grappling hook rocks. I rarely ever use the zip-line but the new unlocks and maps make it worth it to me.
