BF2 Ranks: Too Unattainable?

Is it just me, or are the ranks after Lance Corporal way too stretched out? I mean come on, 10,500 for Corporal? 25,000 for the next one after that?! ARE YOU KIDDING?

Look, I want the unlockables... I want the goodies... but I don't have 18 hours a day to dedicate to Battlefield 2 which, without stat-padding/point-farming, is what it will take to make any kind of dent in my profile.

I'm all for working toward an objective, but for the majority of us, these extra weapons are simply unattainable.

The unlocked weapons arent really any better. However better rank can get you the commander slot. If you want those weapons you really want make a new toon. Youll be LC in about a week. In my case I first unlocked the streetsweeper (AT shotgun). I decided I wanted to try the PKM (peaple killing machine) (support unlock) and a week later I found I liked the PKM much better. You need an email for a new toon but there not checked (dont need to funtion) so fragme@spammeplse.com works fine.

Yeah they are tough...took me a while to get to corporal and I don't see myself ever getting to Sargent. I did make a new name and get to LC just to unlock the .50 cal which is pretty fun, though I still don't think its powerful enough. At least if you hit someone you can usually get an assist.

So you're saying to just create a new account for each unlock (so it can be obtained at 1000 points)... are unlocks available across profiles? For instance, if my current profile has the DOA, will it be available in a new profile that I create?

just look at some of the medals

Distinguished Service Medal

3000 hours as a commander
2000 hours as a squad leader
2000 hours as a squad member
Team score of 53 in one round

Thats 291.7 days of 24 hour play time... now lets say the average super player plays 6 hours a day then it would take him well over 3 years to get that medal

So you would rather that any sense of accomplishment was gained/over quickly?
I think it's stupid that you need to obtain things often by time played, not anything like skill, but it makes it more of a challenge.

it just has to be realistic... 6 hours of gameplay every day for over 3 years is not realistic, not even close

I feel the ranking system is fine by me. Sure, I may never get staff seargant or anything beyond that, but thats what makes it distinguished and pretty damn cool. I agree though, that some of the medals/badges ARE rediculous. I've done the math on them and they are jokes. But I think the point is that each person may get only one of those medals over the course of their bf2 career and there will only be a few people with them. I think the ranking system would have ended up pretty accurate if people hadn't found a way to hack points.

I guess my biggest problem is not having access to all of the game's weapons because of the fact that after your first or second unlock, the ranks are virtually impossible to achieve by anyone with a life.

On the plus side, you can feel better about yourself in relation to the people who have achieved Sargeant rank. They've obviously spent way too much time in front of the computer.

Even thoug i aven't played the game, I have read everything in the thread thus far. While they seem difficult, I would agree with them...if it was made so you could get it playing casually in a few months everyone would be the best and the goal is to avoid that stuff. By making it difficult and extremely hard to climb up, only a few will do that tnd they will be distinguished.

They may be hard, but its better than having everyone maxed out...

I think there's quite a lot of middleground that's available between "everyone gets the highest rank" and the current setup. Keep in mind that you don't have access to all of the weapons until you work your way up through these ranks. I play the game quite a bit (relative to my schedule), and I'm still about 80% away from the second unlock. After that, it will require MONTHS of playing to get the next unlock...

I don't think you really understand what the point levels are for these ranks and how quickly they jump. For instance, your first unlock is at 1000 points. Your next unlock is at 10,500. Then it's 25,000... and it just keeps skyrocketing. You have no idea how few points you get in a game. A really good player will probably yield between 60 - 80 points in one round. Average players will get somewhere between 20 and 40. If each round lasts about 45 minutes (+/ 15 minutes), think about how long it will take you just to get access to the rest of the weapons.

The average player will need to play over 30 rounds for the first unlock... not bad... but then it's 350 rounds for the second unlock... almost 850 rounds for the next...

HOLY CRAP

Again, I enjoy objectives to work toward... but many of these ranks, ribbons, and medals are flat-out unreachable... that is unless you dedicate your LIFE to the game for the next couple of years (<- NOT an exaggeration).

It's so bad that a lot of people have given up going for the higher ranks... they just start a new profile so they can access a new weapon (since you get your first unlock at 1000 points). So now the whole system is being circumvented because the mountain is too damn steep to climb.

I have sargeant rank and managed to do it with a life. It's more feasable than say, leveling up a wow character.

While I only have 3100 points there are some that are already approaching 100000 points within a couple months of release. Thats already almost half way to the highest of 250000... I realize that the time on some of the medals seem about impossible but there are a select few who will attain most of them.

i was playing yesterday, end of game, i took 1st place with 74 points, like 26 kills 6 deaths, but guess what. 2 people on the other team have 160 points. i'm like newbie point farmers. dude had 3 deaths, no kills, lots of support. needless to say i left that server after that game.

I could give a crap about my rank... I want the rest of the weapons that I paid for.

Fair?

Jb look at the ranks. If your playing the game on ranked servers look at the exployters. Thats the game you got to compete with. If thats ok with you then peace, have fun (if thats fun). If you think one of the unlocked weapons would be fun to play with then concider a profile to unlock it. its only a week. There really arent many. Lets talk about them Medic, very accurate dose almost no damage. At killer at close range useless at middle range and beyond, engineer is the same. Spec ops is not an upgrade unless your on the beloved patriot team then just barely. Assult ya, if your a decent player its an upgrade, you lose the noob tube but if your decent you wern't useing it that much anyway. Support ya this thing does great damage slower rate of fire but 3 shots anywhere and hes toast, and jeeps and humvees are hurtable. Blackhawk youll get an engineer or two before the gatling gun gets you. Sniper isnt an upgrade ya it hits hard but theres no telling where it will hit. What did I leave out? If you like city maps at or engineer will put you even with the noob tube. I find the support upgrade usefull everywhere, just become as one with the idea you cant scratch a tank, apc or anything in the air. Other than that its the same game as with the weapons you started with. Other than that it is the right to play commander. Thats a very different game more of a stratgy game than a massively mulityplayer first person shooter. So what are you wining about except they get it and I cant? What did they get? NOTHING MUCH. We can all hope that the upcomming patch will make all paths stright. But dices history says they will fix some things. But other problems will remain. I've said it before but theres a really good game in this concept that dice has, and there nearer to it than before. But BF2 as it exists is a flawed game. Tking is worse with there anti tk code than it was in BF 42. The shame is there are games out there that do it so much better (americas army comes to mind with tk code). Its so close that we get fustrated but you gotta understand that this game, as great as it is is fundamenatledly flawed. Sorry about the long post but I share your fustration. Its very close to a very very good game but as it is it sucks.
