I can play the game fine while its on single player but when I play multiplayer it randomly freezes. It may be when I just get in trying to pick a side or 5 minutes later while im playing. Either way it just does NOT work online. I have no firewall and I have used the punkbuster update tool. My graphics drivers are updated (ATI X800 XL) and I have installed the new patch 1.21. Can anyone give me a solution?

The game is really picky with ATI cards (just got my x1900xt). I was having problems too. Disable catalyst A.I. and see what happens. I went as far as deleting my profiles and downloading them again... seemed to help.

Well, I have an ATi AIW 8500DV 64mb. When I first tried BF2 out (version 1.2), my FPS was LOW AS HELL! Then when the new 1.21 patch came out, I installed it and I downloaded the new 6.3 Catalyst driver. After that, I was able to play at decent FPS!

Try getting the new drivers.

imo it is the game that is buggy. most of the problems started at the 1.2 patch. you are not alone unfortunately with issues online :(

i have had the game since it came out and it is too bad because V1.0-1.03 was the best setup, 1.12 was not too bad, but now it is gone to hell

the demo is even better than the current setup.....

I can play single player fine its just the online play that it freezes me up on so its not my video card. Ive even reinstalled windows completely and then tried again, still nothing. Went to a friends house and played on my account with no problems so its something with my multiplayer here.

Someone told me deleting a folder within My Documents >> Battlefield 2 would fix this problem, anyone else hear about this?

that has never happend to me in bf2. Something is obviously wrong with your configuration. Reformat if necessary.

The folder is in my doc/battlefield2/mods/cache. How many folders are in the cache folder? IF there is more than one delete them all. Then launch bf2 again and shaders will reoptimize.

There were two folders within the cache folder. I deleted them both. I will post updates if it works or not.

I had a similar problem. I found that you can't have any distributed computing programs running. I had the Folding program running on mine. When I uninstalled it, everything was just fine. I bet this doesn't make Team Anandtech happy. But BF2 is way more important than cancer research. :)

I had a similar problem until today, couldn't play BF2 OR Q4 online. I reinstalled the latest version of DirectX and I haven't had a problem since. I realize that I'm not using ATI hardware, but I know what's it's like trying everything just to get your fix of BF2. ;)

the reason i am leaning more on the something with the game, specifcally the networking portion, is that i have had more than 1 issue when practicing flying on my dedicated test server that i am connected to via a 100Mb/s switch. now this machine is not used much except for my testing and this is on a home lan so i know exactly what is going on with all the bandwidth. with my home lan i have had pings of 0 and then it would jump to 1000ms, and i was the only one on the map.

the only way i can make the game totally fluid is to game single player.

I never had that game lock up on me once. I do believe i've had it exit to desktop on me once or twice with the earlier patches, but hardlock my system never. i'm also using an ATI card x800xtpe, and have used 6.1 6.2 6.3 drivers no problems. And with the 1.21 patch I find the game is slightly better than the 1.2 patch.
