BF2 - Port/Firewall

What network port does BF2 use? It seems that every server I attempt to connect to fails to connect, and I assume its my router preventing.

I always wondered if you need to open up ports...

I didn't, and it works fine for me. Does anyone know if there is a benefit to opening up ports for online games?

I'll try it again tonight.. see if I have better luck.
usually I can do ok without opening ports.. so maybe it was all bad luck...

Edit:
tried last night and worked. Seems like it fails to connect on at least 50% of servers though.
