BF2 performance..

Ok so when I first got this game, it ran like crap on my computer with max settings, 1600x1200 4xAA (30fps average with lots of hitching). Then, for some unknown reason, it went smooth! (70fps average with no hitching) and it stayed smooth. Until.....

I had to reinstall the game because it wasn't patching properly, and it runs like crap again!! Obivously identical video settings because it's the same profile. What's the deal here? What is making it run so badly when it was running so well before?

Oh and turning down the resolution/AA doesn't affect performance one little bit, so it's not GPU related I don't think

Well as I said it was running perfectly on those settings before. Anyway I tried putting everything on Medium, no AA, 800x600, guess what: Identical framerate. I'm really confused here, as it doesn't seem to be a RAM bottleneck, GPU bottleneck, or CPU bottleneck. But it is bottlenecked by something. I tried defragmenting my hard drive as well, nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried adjusting the sound mode? I think that may affect performance if you have it on a mode that doesn't work well with your sound card, but I may be talking out of my ass. Try both Software and Hardware modes and maybe the other one (but I think the 3rd one doesn't work for any cards currently) and see if that helps.

I tried the Hardware mode, I don't know what it does exactly, but it makes the audio lag horribly.
And the software mode gives every sound an echo.
