We've started playing BF2 more and more at work during lunch and after the bell sounds so I was thinking about a cheap upgrade... the 9800 Pro 128MB is pretty slow / laggy...

Get a X800XL or 6800GT...you should also think about upgrading your RAM if you dont have enough

The rest of the work computer is: 3.2GHz P4 HT, 2GB RAM, BF2 running @ low 1024x768 ... I'd just like to be able to run full 1600x1200 w/ some AA/AF on the 2001FP.

yeah, if you want to run at 16x12, youre gonna need a 7800gt, and maybe get away with a 6800gt heavily OCed.

I would go with the x800xl, it's cheaper than the 6800GT and will do just as well. Still, if you want to start with settings up much higher as posted earlier you'll need to do a lot more than this.
While the x800xl is a great price it doesn't overclock well. Some 6800GTs will overclock for you, but not to the level you want. I say get the x800xl. You're upgrading for the exact reason I did, and this is also the card I upgraded to. You should know that the x800xl doesn't give me even close to what I want out of BF2, but I don't think I'm going to get that until I upgrade my CPU considerably.
