Will a better video card shorten load times and stuff? When I close it the music still plays for like a minute after I actually turn the game off.

I dont think RAM will help. That games loading is much more HDD bound. In game however 2gig of RAM is MUCH better than 1gig of RAM. Loading however is HDD intensive. You would have to go to SCSI to see any noticable difference.

I lowered textures to medium, the load times were just too long...

The loading itself isn't so bad, it's fvcking Punk Buster verifying the client content that takes forever, for me anyways.

Could be lots of things...

1) RAM
2) HD
3) CPU

Most likely it's RAM, cause BF2 exceeds 1GB.

Getting 2GB for me solved the music playing after I exit the game.

2gb without questions fixes it; i had the identical issue. Load times and the time for BF2 to release the memory were fixed.

had that same issue but with 2 GB of memory, many of my issues disappeared completely. now the desktop doesn't take forever to refresh. i figured memory is at a reasonable price so i decided to get the other gig :)

I always wonder: to those that feel 2gb made a difference... how much RAM are you using before you start the game? i don't find my load times too bad, but then maybe i am just more patient.
i only have 1gig and use about 115MB before i start the game.

turn off the music in the options menu and get 2GB of RAM... It really does help a lot. I went from 1GB to 2GB and everything seems to be faster, especially ALT+Tabbing to the desktop while running the game or just exiting the game. The desktop is instantly there. it doesn't have to swap files from the RAM and HD first, it's just there. I also feel like load times were shortened (maybe it's just me). I don't think a super video card helps loading or exiting, just graphic detail in the game. I'm sure the CPU also has a lot to do with how fast things happens as well, but this would be one of my last upgrades, unless your running some very old proc and find a deal on a better one. Hope this helps.

It sucks cuz I have a winchester so if I get another gig its going to bump it down to 333 on the ram. And I wont be able to overclock it anymore. Thats why I was hoping the video card could also be of help to bring the load times down. But here is another question. Even if I do get another gig of ram to put in there to take up all four slots is that still going to be an improvement even if its running at 333?

I only have 512mb of mem, and ittakes forever to load. It also takes forever to get completely out of the game and back into Windows to where I can actually use the computer.

Stupid game. The FEAR demo is nearly as bad. Stupid demo

Sell your current sticks and buy two 1GB sticks. Thats what I did. I've got a Socket 754 so it is even worse about memory.

As far as I know there are no games that support dual core yet, so there "should" be no difference in load times for games. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. It sounds like it may be time to build a new rig. any money you spend on this one is kinda working backwards, since everything is going to DDR2 & PCI-e, you might wait to see what ATI does with AGP support and then consider selling your sticks and buying 2 1GB models (as stated above). All up to you.

I only have 1gig of RAM yet BF2 loads quick for me. I would say it's due to the WD Raptor harddisk I'm running.
