I have no idea what's going on. I just got the game yesterday, and was playing last night on my secondary computer.

However, I just tried to play online on my main computer (with the same copy of the game) and I got the CD key invalid thing. Does BF2 only allow you to install the game once on a certain computer? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Either you typed it in wrong or it was being used online ATM. Though I'm not sure what the EULA states and it may very well be against it, but I have not have had any issues installing the game on more than 1 computer nor have I had a problem using the same key for a different account on another computer. You can create more than one account per cdkey and they will all work as long as they are not being played at the same time. It will give a cdkey in use or boot the other account off if two are trying to be played that use the same cdkey. A lot of games are like this (except for things like Steam).

I bought BF1942 here on the FS/T forum several years ago and after a while, it started to tell me my CD Key was in use. I didn't have any trojans/viruses and I hadn't given it to anyone, so I tracked down the support email.

I emailed EA and they fired back a form letter saying to send them a copy of my case with the CD key visible, so I took a picture of it and sent it back. They "investigated" and found out it was in use somewhere, so they banned that key and issued me a new one.

So try emailing them. They reissued mine pretty quickly.

OK, found a fix for this problem for anyone else with similar issues. The EA fix is as follows:

Sometimes a conflict in the updated files can prevent the game from properly identifying your CD-key. Usually, refreshing your CD-key will resolve the issue. Note that this will only correct the error if you used the same Windows account to install, patch, and troubleshoot the game. If you have switched Windows accounts at any point it is recommended you uninstall, reinstall, and repatch using the same Windows login.

If you have Battlefield 2

Click Start.
Go to Run.
Type regedit and hit OK button.
Click on plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click on plus sign next to SOFTWARE.
Double click on Electronic Arts folder.
Double click on EA Games folder.
Double click on Battlefield 2 folder.
Double click on ergc folder.
Data displayed will probably have x9392 only.
Right click on it and select Modify.
Type in x9392 and then your CD key.
note: don?t include hyphens.

Example: x9392(your Battlefield 2 CD key here)
