Ever since I formatted windows and reinstalled BF2 I have not been able to bind my crouch key.

It comes default as the left ctrl, but I always use the right control cause I play with the arrows and not w-a-s-d.

I even after binding the key to the right control the left control is still the crouch key. I've tried binding crouch to almost every other key on my keyboard and left ctrl is STILL the crouch key. Furthermore, if I try to bind the left ctrl key to any other function, it tells me "DUplicate key found in common controls"

Any ideas?????? I didnt have this problem the first 5 months I played this game.

wow, the exact same thing happened to me too, after i formatted and reinstalled windows. i eventually got it rto work, try to make it as an alternate button for crouch, so you have left ctrl and c as crouch. i think thats how i fixed mine.

As I said, it only started happening after I formatted and reinstalled.

This is really annoying not being able to crouch.

ok, I'm sorry, this is ridiculousIf you formatted it wouldn't matter if you had installed it before because you'd be starting with a clean slate and it would work fine. You must be leaving out information here. Did you actually reformat, or did you uninstall BF2? Perhaps you only re-installed windows and then reinstalled BF2. perhaps you reformatted your main drive and have BF2 installed in a secondary drive... What specifically did you do?

i know it sounds stupid but it happened to me too. there isn't anything left after a format. it must just be some weird bug in the game. i had the game set the way i liked it. i got new mobo, cpu and video card, formatted my drive, reinstalled windows, reinstalled bf2 and after that i couldn't map just the c key to crouch. i had to add the c key as an alternate to the left ctrl key to be to use it.

I am also unable to bind it, everytime I do it tells me another key is bound but I cant find it.

BF2 is a joke of a game, EA got my last dollars.

Edit: This happened after a format.

People who are having a hard time with binding their keys might have to roll up your sleeve and manually edit the "control.con" file. There's a really good post by Random Skratch over at the Planet Battlefield forums. Here's the link.

There's a lot more you can do by messing with the "control.con" file that you can't with the BF2 ingame config menu. For an example I have my spacebar set to jump and open parachute while on foot. That way I can just tap spacebar twice when leaping off from high places. I also have my spacebar set to "Select Position 2" while in vehicles, which is usually switching from driver's seat to manning the machine gun. The ingame menu will give you the "duplicate key" crap if you try to do it ingame. I don't know why DICE can't spend 10 minutes to fix this relatively easy problem.

okay, lets think about this and play a little sherlock Holmes. Lets look at all the possibilities, remove all that we can, and anything left no matter how improbable must be the answer. A full format means that you are wiping out all the data on the drive, no relics no nothing, so it has nothing to do with the drive. Then we have the possibility that when you install the game and drop your CD key in somehow online content is overwriting your config. Highly unlikely, but not impossible. I tend to think theis is not it. That leaves one possible scenario, user error. If I were you I would simply go into the config and hit escape on absolutly every field in every single mode (land, helicopter, plane), then go back in an remap everything. I'll bet that fixes your problem.
