BF2: Bad Company 2 burned out my 280 GTX?

I had my evga 280 GTX since 1/09 running xp 32-bit until I recently installed Win7 64-bit and of course upgraded to the latest drivers.

Three weeks later while I was playing BC2, all the sudden I got a flood of red color waves on my screen. The color flood persisted through a few reboots and was present even in the BIOS bootup. Several other threads seem to share the same issue with BC2 running too hot or bad vram and leading to PSOD. The card isnt under warranty and I am forced to look for a new card.

Since this is a bit sudden, I am not sure what people are recommending right now. I am looking to spend 400 or less (preferably) but still want it to run BC2 without excessive heat.

Can you guys help me out again and point me in the right direction?

I play 1600 x 1080 but with everything on. Any help is appreciated. Otherwise, I will keep an eye on slickdeals for a GPU special

If temps are an issue take a look at the ATI 5xxx series, 5870. It's on the latest 40nm process, fits within the 400 budget and gets you top of the line DX11 performance.

I'd blame hot hardware before programing ..., but hardware death DOSE happen. Sorry for your loss.

5850 is currently the best bang for the buck in the high end. You can get it for ~$300 and run with everything turned up.

If you got the courage I'd try oven baking that 280. If not then go with the suggestions and find a 5850/470 at best price available

If it's an evga card then surely half the reason for buying it was the good warranty?
Send it back and get a new one.

I am seeing alot of 5870 cards up for sale, and oddly alot of i7 gaming rigs up for sale in the FS/FT threads. You might want to check them out.

HD5850 or GTX470. And please, choose one with a lifetime warranty and register it if need be on the manufacturers site immediately after you receive it. eVGA requires this within 30 days after purchase. If you don't, I believe the warranty defaults to 1 year if I'm not mistaken. Not sure about XFX or PowerColor though. Check them out closely.
My first reaction was going to say RMA the card. But you mention no warranty. Bummer dude.

+1
Contact Evga and ask if they accept to RMA it.

If not, count another vote for the 5850.

You can get a HD5870 for $400 and it's without a doubt the fastest card at this price. A cheaper alternative would be the HD5850 for $300. If you're worried about power consumption and heat avoid the new nVidia cards.

XFX is like EVGA, have to register to get the lifetime warrant but don't know about Powercolor.
