BF2 & ATI doesn't seem to mix here.

I get frequent pausing with my system even when most settings are at medium except for texture, geometry, filtering. Res is 1280x1024.

Anyone else experiencing crap?

How much RAM do you have? if you have less than a GIG you will get shuddering like that.

i will assume you are using a rig other than the one in your sig. what is your processor, ram, etc... that all factors in. and i'm using a p4 660 3.6 @ 4.32, with 1gb 5300 ram, and evga 6800ultra in SLI. i can push it up to max, on 1600x1200, and get it to run steady, but i'm working on aquiring another gig of ram, very well could improve it. i noticed on another thread that bf2 in particular used quite a bit of ram.

p4 3ghz, 6800gt, 1 gb generic pc3200, runs bf2 okay. low fps at times, but no crahes. occasional studering though.

Athlon XP @2.0GHz
1GB (2x512) Geil @210FSB
Radeon 9800 Pro

1024x768 medium settings, lighting & shadows set to low
2xAA

FPS hovers between 50-90, which is great, but I get terrible hitching every now and then. probably will pick up 1 gig of Corsair Value Select to see if it helps.

i think it works fine.. gotta consider how much bandwidth all that stuff going on in game uses.

theres alot of stuff going on in that game online.

people need to play the single player and see how it runs with given settings, then run multiplayer.
theres too many variables in multiplayer to use it as your judge if the "engine sucks".

i dont think it does, theres not a lot of engines out there that coudl power this game.
maybe the Unreal2 engine but thats about it. I dont think source could do it.

64 players on massive maps, with tons of things going on (voice com, squads, commanders) is taxing on everything.
the whole thing is silky smooth for me, so it has to be a halfway decent engine.

Source or Farcry engines could do it fine. EA sucks ass.

It isnt an ATI issue. I get the exact same thing as you with my 6800GT.

It will play just fine then lockup for about 5 seconds and then continue. It is completely random but highly annoying. Not sure what crack I was smoking to purchase this game within 2 weeks of release. Rule of thumb with EA, wait 3 months before attempting to play the game.

I use the Rig in Sig, but I just forgot to make some changes, all updated now.

I'm getting some pretty weird shadow artifacts too. Pixelated.

Put everything on high and textures on medium and you should be set. No visible difference between high and medium textures anyway.

There is some distinction. On High, textures are a bit sharper.

Any, I reinstalled BF2 without the new patch and it works perfect now. And there are more people playing with lower pings.

Nope, BF2 and my Radeon 9600 seem to love each other, fast and great fps considering its a semi-old card.
