It seems that everytime i try to play bf2 after a while of playing (ussually random as to when it happens) the game will freeze and my speakers will continue with a weird noise (it's constant but each time it freezes it's a different noise). this problem has also happened in civilizations 4 and i can't think of any other games.

sys specs: (i doubt it's anything overheating)
cpu: athlon xp 2800+ (barton core) i use a Kingwin aquagate....soemthign the 2nd version

mobo: gigabyte 7vaxp ultra

memory: 1 512mb corsair xms pc3200, and 1 512 ocz pc3200

vid card: sapphire radeon x800 gto (agp version), i've modded it with dual thermaltake copper heatsinks on each ram chip and also use the kingwin watercooling on it

Soundblaster audigy (is this causing the problem?! i just updated drivers on it and still having same problem with games)

soo...this is confusing me heh, i had a ati 9500pro before and still had same problem with that.

I had the same problem and it was the sound drivers. I would completely uninstall your sound card drivers and reinstall them.

I had a similar problem with my son's computer on some newer games. You are probably running asynchronouslly - FSB @ 333 MHz and RAM @ 400 MHz. This shouldn't be a problem, but some MBs just can't seem to handle it under intense operations.

In my son's comp the only thing that finally fixed the problem was to set the RAM to run @ 333 MHz in the BIOS to match the FSB. If you are running similarly, try this.

You could try pulling back the OC and see what happens. Maybe the CPU then try the vid card.

i think it's my sound card, i just disabled my sound card through the hardware managment console in the control panel and when i ran bf2 again it did not freeze.

Sounds like you are having memory issues. If you have another stick of RAM, try using that instead.

I assume that the sound you are hearing is sound looping? In otherwords it just plays the same sound again and again and again...

it's not a looping sound but an actual freezing of a certain noise that is random (or from part of the game where it happens to freeze but i don't belive that since most of the times it is a high pitch ring or squeel. but it is most certainly not looping

Hmm, check you event log/system log.

(Right Click My Computer -> Manage -> Logs and Reports)

See if there is anything that looks strange. If you find anything, head over to Link and type in the ID number associated with the problem. You may be able to narrow it down is XP is catching and logging the error.

sometimes punkbuster anticheat software (that bf2 uses) causes issues. try playing with punkbuster off (might be hard to find non pb servers) and see if the problem still happens.
