The machine guns especially have no resonance and the sound effects in general are flat, certainly much more so than I would expect from so recent a release. Is there a patch to fix this or is it just me?

it may be just you but there was a repeating sound bug that i know of, the newest patch is 1.31 i think. try that and see if it fixes the issue, also try changing your settings if u dont like the sounds. i in general dont really care that much about sound so i dont care

I have no problem with the sound with my Santa Cruz... sounds quite nice actually. Nice enough to scare the crap out of me every now and then when someone fires a rifle right by my ear. :Q

If you have sound hardware accel on in game turn it off... if it's off turn it on. See if you notice a difference.

I don't play BF1942 itself though... I play the Desert Combat mod. The DC mod is better than the original game... and it's still alpha. ;)

I'll have to take a look at DC :)

But I won't be able to handle flat sounds...so i'd better try to fix it.

Now do you mean you don't know what the craze is with complaining about the sound or you don't know what the craze is with BF1942?

He doesn't know what the craze is with BF. Get DC and try it... the sounds they include seem to be much better than the standard BF sounds. Double check your sound settings in game though... I believe the www.battlefield1942.com website use to have a guide that told you the recommended settings for each major sound card.

Also, look for the Merciless Texture/Sound packs, they change it quite a bit :)

I don't mind. :)
I upgraded from an Iwill KK266+ Raid, 1.4GHz Tbird, 384MB PC133 --> Asus A7N8X Deluxe, XP 2400+, 512MB XMS PC2700 mainly for this game. Now my bottleneck is my 128MB 8500LE. Still pumps out about 80-100fps constantly though. Most of the lag I get now is server side.

what kind of speakers are you using? i'm running a 5.1 Altec Lansing system with SB 51. Live and the sound fx's sounds great. the AAA guns shakes my whole room. small arms sounds just like any other game. will look into DC mod.

My problem with the game (at least the demo) is that the netcode sucks. Does anyone else experience that? I get 25ms ping in some servers and my bullets rarely hit their mark (and don't say it's cause I suck!)

odd, my bullets hit and i get from 15-80ping. fcourse i only try sniping when i find a low ping server, but even at 60 u can nail people easy with tanks or machine guns.

It's because you suck.

;)

BF1942 is realistic. That means that if the opponent is running, and is some distance away from you, you have to judge for the distance you are away from them (how long the bullet will take to reach there) and consequentially you will have to shoot in front of them by the relevent amount.

It's not like CS where even if someone is running, and is the entire length of the map away from you, you can aim where they are and get the hit.

Also the netcode has come a long way since the demo... the 1.31 patch is a lot better than the original BF demo/first retail patch.
