Well, it seems that constant complaining actually paid off in the long run... This is a direct quote from Gamespot.com:

Battlefield 1942 Punk'd

"DICE and EA to incorporate Punkbuster anti-cheating software into war game's next patch.
DICE and Electronic Arts announced today that they will include Punkbuster anti-cheating software in the forthcoming 1.6 Battlefield 1942 patch. "Our goal is to have measures in place which address both current and future cheats," said a statement on the official Battlefield 1942 site. "As such, after researching existing anti-cheat programs, we've determined that Punkbuster suits our purposes perfectly." According to the statement, the inclusion was in response to pressure from the BF 1942 community.

Developed and published by Even Balance, Punkbuster software foils online game cheats through a variety of ways, including scanning players' computers for hacks and settings that otherwise exploit game engines. It is currently available for America's Army, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake III Arena, and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, among others. "

Great! I've never really looked for cheaters in 1942... but they are out there I bet.

So where can we download some good cheat-progs to use until the patch comes out?

You use any cheats on any servers i'm playing on and I will come and hunt you down, take my bluntest, rustyest knife, and slowly cut off each one of your extremeties, ensuring that I cause as much pain and discomfort as possible, until you can't go on any further, and you beg for me to stop.

Supposedly, these cause lag.
Some people have complained that PB will cause lag also, but the majority of people I've heard from have said it didn't cause lag problems in other games.

But hopefully, this will stop the rampant cheating. And yes, it is rampant. Even on pure servers.
Then maybe all the non-cheaters will find out that they are much better players than they thought.

I admit, I downloaded a cheating program and tried it out. In the first 13 months of playing this game, I never cheated. But I was tired of people always seeming to know where I was and kill me without me ever seeing them. I wanted to see how much of an advantage these cheats gave you.

To those who don't think cheats are an issue:
Ever play against a pilot who you never see and who always ends up behind you?
Ever get killed by a sniper from the other side of the map?
Ever play Berlin and Stalingrad and every time you go around a corner, there just happens to be a guy there aiming right at you?

Here are the cheats included in the executable I downloaded. This .exe works perfectly in the current version and on all servers, pure or not.

Fog = very advantageous for snipers and pilots. Although there is still a distance beyond which other planes are not rendered.

Radar = Very very advantageous. This is how those pilots always end up on your six without you ever seeing them. There is a distance limitation though, but it is plenty far to be able to avoid enemy planes before they see you.

Enemy Name Tags = basically does the same thing as the radar hack but not as useful because the tag could be showing someone near you and it could be showing someone on the other side of the map.

Accuracy = Eliminates bullet spread. Especially bad in DC with the heavy machine guns. They no longer need to go prone to be accurate.

Zoom = Combined with no fog, this makes it easy for a sniper to take you out from crazy distances. Limited usefullness for non-snipers because it makes it a PITA to move around.

All these cheats work just fine on pure servers. There are no files changed, so the install still looks pure to the server.

The thing that pisses me off is that I have played this game since the demo. With the hundreds of hours I have spent playing, I have earned the right to be at the top of the leaderboard. But when I'm flying a plane and the other pilot always knows where I am, how can I compete with that. There is no element of surprise which is so crucial to winning a dogfight. I can still own the mediocre pilots who are cheating, but I don't have a chance against a decent cheating pilot. I for one, will be very happy when something can be done about this.

I agree totally with Shanti
I have experienced the same things and it is very aggrivating, you can almost always tell just by they're kill scores that they are cheating.
I even found some one using some kind of hack that he could shoot through walls with a tank, like excesive splash damage or something. and he always new were you were coming around a corner with a RPG.

It really destroys the fun of the game. once in a while is pure skill but......
when somebody kills you when your the one coming around the corner shooting at them its un-real.
Why people always think they got to cheat i dont know? just cus they suck or want to get the upper hand? why not just practice and become a better player?

Judging by score is not an accurate way to tell if someone is cheating.
I had a 35-0 once manning artillery Monte Cassino, and I often have k:D ratios of 10:1 when I spend a whole round in a Mustang or 109. I can also rack up pretty good scores in a Tiger or M10.

But what's funny is that playing with the radar hack makes it much easier to tell who else has it. The first time I tried it, I played Stalingrad. I was on one side of a building and could see that there was another guy on the other side. Each time I started to run around the building, I could see by the arrow on the radar that he was turning towards the direction I would be coming from. I kept stopping and going the other way, and every time, he would turn around to be ready to shoot me when I came around the corner. No possible way he could see me or know where I was going without using either the radar hack, or the name tag hack.

I haven't played much BF1942 online, besides on a LAN at my university, so I don't know much about cheating in that game, but I can relate it to my CS days.... man cheating sucked balls, so I'm glad BF is going to do something about it.
