From EA's official site:

Everyone on the Battlefield team at DICE and EA has been working late nights on another surprise for the community. We?d like to take this time to announce the Battlefield 1942 1.3 patch ? it?s coming soon, maybe even sooner than you think! Look for more details about the patch soon, for now here?s a sneak peek:

-Implemented TK solution: On the server-side you can implement various TK-solutions such as a Spawn Delay penalty (puts them into spawn limbo) or the simple Kick/Ban. On the client-side you'll be able to Forgive or Punish TK depending on how the server is set up.

-Client performance optimization

-Map-loading optimized

-Improved interface for in-game voting

In addition, the 1.3 patch will allow Road to Rome users to play on original BF1942 servers. You will still need to own RtR in order to play on the new maps included in the expansion pack.

Looks like they've been listening to the howls of all those (like me) who were about to quit playing the game thanks to all the assholes out there who think TKing is fun or something. Gotta love it when a game developer actually pays attention to what people are saying about the game. :)

Nice feature.

One of my favorite extras in Raven Shield... boot the idiots right off of the servers.

Teamkilling. You know, the motherf*ckers who stand by the ammo box on the aircraft carriers and spam grenades all over the deck, or lay mines, or just shoot everyone. I'm sure it's happened to you if you've played on a public server.

I don't have BF1942 (afraid to buy it only to find out it won't run on my system, because the demo would not), but when someone TK's a vehicle, does it lable it as a TK? I know in Tribes2, if someone teamkilled a bomber, you saw "10yroldNewb TEAMKILLED a bomber!" in the status window.

I guess people TKing the vehicles if someone gets in them before they do is a problem in BF1942, it'd be nice if they booted those idiots too.

a vehicle in BF1942 is considered nuetral until someone drives it. Once he/she exits it, it becomes nuetral again.

It only counts (on your score anyway) as a teamkill if there's someone in the vehicle when you blast it. The thing with BF1942 is that anyone can grab any vehicle, regardless of which team it belongs to, so sometimes you will blast your own vehicles on purpose if, say, someone on the opposing team sneaks into your hangar and grabs a plane.

EDIT- Looking at your rig, I'd say that upgrading your vid card and adding another 256 megs of RAM would allow you to play the game fine. It's definitely a vid hog and will load slowly without the extra memory, but I'd bet it would do OK on a GF3 if you could pick one up cheaply.

Did they improve/fix the netcode? I quit playing because I was tired of chasing peeps in circles, emptying 3 clips, and still not touching them at point blank range.

Also the fact that the pistol is as powerful as the sniper rifle, is hella annoying. Other than that, it's a nice game.

I just hate the bastards that blow it up because you got to it before them

Yes, it's much better. I don't know what they did, but you can actually plug someone with a pistol at close range now. You can even aim for and score headshots.

Yeha, thats kind of how it is in Tribes 2 as well. Vehicle jacking used to be a huge problem, because you "ordered" vehicles and they appeared on the pad. You could order one, and some idiot would hop in it before you could get in the seat and take off. Or someone from the other team would do the same. They fixed that in a patch, but the other team can still swipe your vehicles if they're sitting around.

Having it only count as a TK if someone is in it makes sense.

Now that they're patching this game to something solid, maybe I'll gamble $20 at the next gogamer sale and pick it up. I think I'd enjoy it as long as it runs on my pc without crashing like the demo did

Sweet, that really put a hamper on the game experience imo. I never could get the update for the demo to install though. BF is a nice team based game, if you have teamwork, you can rule the whole map.

Americas Army (free game) can ban you for good for too much TK'ing. If you do it, you will find yourself in a prison cell and you have to reboot to get out of it, LOL.

They put the game out to promote teamwork, and if you choose to TK or use cheat codes (yes, admins audit the servers and listen to reported cheating) then the Army Dev team will cancel your account. I am a member of (1ST) Vets Battalion and we all take cheating seriously. In fact the Army Dev team visits our forum and listens to us very seriously when we report somebody, which is done real-time over IRC. We have a few members that are sergeant majors in the Army, and many active duty service members. We are all vets though, and we need to prove it with our DD214 to even be a member there.

I really liked the ROE system in AA. That was very well done. I'd like to see some sort of permanent ban established (ie: like the HL banning of your WON address) for rampant TK'ers/cheaters

I think it's worth it. I was about to give up on it given how bad the gaming was in 1.1 (buggy, and close combat was just a joke.....I recall chasing a guy with a knife or a pistol for the better part of a minute and neither of us scoring a hit), but it's actually very enjoyable now. People get pissy now because the tanks are "too powerful", but hey....they're f*cking tanks. IRL, any infantry guys would run for the hills if a they saw a Tiger bearing down on them, not jump around and try to pitch grenades under it.

Like I said, my only current major beef with this game is the TKing and the overly-complicated steps you have to take to boot someone (most people don't even know how to do it). I'll be a happy camper once that is fixed.

Hehe...no doubt. Get your engineers working and coordinate your scouts/artillery and the other team is boned. :D

I have a Xp1700+ with 768mb pc2100, new wd120gb hd, gf4ti4200 and it runs like ShYt on it.. that thing is a serious resource hog. I'm thinking about upgrading my processor just so i can play it at a smooth framerate on all the maps.

You have something else going on. I have a virtually identical system (with less RAM actually) and I was running 12 x 9 @ 32 last night. I even turned AA on for a while, but it screwed up the text. You need to do some system tweaking, I'd say.

Yup, they did it right. The way they can do it though is their game is free and owned by Uncle Sam. It is a great benchmark and other games should aspire to be so good in banning cheaters/TK'ers.

Too bad advertising and profits take precedence over honor and honesty.

-Improved interface for in-game voting
I can only hope that this means it will be easier to kick losers who are only there to spoil the game for everyone else. Calls for votes to kick people are worthless, becuase nobody freakin' knows how! That's one of the reasons I gave up on CounterStrike a long time ago; no one knew the arcane method to vote for a kick.

I run that game on a 900Mhz system, 128MB GeForce 4200, and 512MB (133Mhz) sys memory. No problems and fast as hell.

I did just order a new asus mobo with the nvidea chips, 512 of new memory, and a 2100+ "b" chip though, hehehehehe... You should see the CPU fan I bought, hellllooooooo overclocking...
