BF 2142 and network scanning of adware

With all the fuss over BF2142, it seems easy to say that more and more games will have some sort of adware attached to them. My question to you people is: Can is be stopped at the desktop? I know that programs such as Ethereal can scan network traffic but is there a way to scan the traffic going out of your network for anything suspicious and blocking it? Example: it see a packet/frame whatever going to Adware company X and it gets blocked so that even thou the adware is working on your pc it cannot communicate with the outside world? Sorry for a rough 1st post Please be kind

Ethereal does not filter traffic, it only monitors and logs traffic. For that sort of job you would also be looking at an IPS on top of your other network hardware.

Unless you manage to find a way to remove WildTangent from the system.

So say I have snort running on my router all I'd have to do i run it in Inline mode, and use Ethereal/Wireshark to find what traffic I want stopped then set that up in Snort manually?
That sounds like alot of work and if there isnt an easier way im gonna try it but is there any opensource program that could autmatically do this if it had a list/rule set of known adware/bad addresses?
