Anyone else get this?
Basically, everything works great, but after playing for an hour or so I suddenly get "disconnected from server". Or the program may crash (less frequent). It happens maybey half the time. Any ideas?

It sounds like a mem problem. Is your rig oc'ed at all? If so, try the default settings.

I think thats what you see on some servers when you get kicked because they are trying to make room for some of their members.

Probably not. I have a 128mb 6800nu and I never drop or crash out of BF2 servers. Ok, perhaps never is a strong word; it happens maybe once every 2-3 weeks.

The game itsself is rather buggy. I get disconnected from games or crashed back to the desktop without an error message quite often. Well... quite often compared to say starcraft that never crashes unless i join a "LOOK AT TEH DOTZ" map (intentionally crashes the game).

Ya, I suppose it is a pretty high performance game, therefore HP bugs!

Never thought of a mem stick problem...

There's nothing mysterious about this... it's practically hardcoded into the game.

I really hope that for the next generation of Battlefield games, Dice learns from its previous mistakes and licenses an engine instead of again trying to futilly write its own. It's quite obvious after two engines that they have no idea WTF they're doing. There are problems with every subsystem of their engine:

Netcode - SUCKS. With the exception of near-perfect conditions, the servers and clients cannot reliably communicate with one another. I know some servers excacerbate the problem by overloading the box, but I know of servers that are running 1 32-player instance on boxes that are equipped to reconstruct the Earth if necessary. This is NOT a hardware issue.

Sound - EAX. Need I say more?

Video - 1280 x 1024, widescreen formats. Need I say more?

User Interface/Menu - BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If I forgot a subsytem, my apologies... but rest assured, IT SUCKS TOO.

To be fair, I've had very few mysterious disconnects that weren't traced to a known cause. Either the server resets and everyone is disconnected, or my dsl modem reset and I was the only one disconnected. I think I've had less than 5 disconnects where I didn't know what caused the disconnect and I've been playing since the demo came out. Keep in mind though that I don't play ranked servers and I usually only play at a handful of servers all in the same datacenter.

Netcode does need to be fixed and I think is the cause of alot of the weapon accuracy issues.

Sound - I'm not really qualified to judge their sound code since I run software mode using onboard realtek sound. My EAX box is ticked, but I can't tell the difference when it is or isn't. That CMSS-3d on the X-Fi which promises surround sound in normal headphones has me thinking about finally buying a sound card.

Video - 1280 x 1024 can be run by modifying the BF2 shortcut. You shouldn't have to modify the shortcut, but that's the way it is for now.

Widescreen - I'm torn on this, I don't own a widescreen monitor. I can understand that the owners of widescreen monitors would like their monitors to be used to the fullest ability, on the other hand as a squarish monitor owner, I wouldn't want widescreen owners to have an advantage over me in game just because they bought a widescreen monitor. To support widescreen, either the widescreen people would see a clipped version of the game screen or a stretched version or a version with extra peripheral vision. Bottom line for widescreen is that someone is going to be mad no matter how you choose to implement it.

UI - 1.00 was terrible, 1.02 in my opinion is early alpha stage, meaning it works for the main functions but is feature incomplete.
