bf 1942 more maps?

It kinda depends on what you want to do. You won't find many custom maps being played on vanilla BF1942 online multiplayer. There are still a few mods with active players. Last time I tried I found a few decent Desert Combat servers. I bet there are a few Forgotten Hope servers running too.
If you want singleplayer check out the battlefield singleplayer forums. There are some really great maps there with bots to go run around and shoot.
 
I think you should be able to download the Battle Of Britain, Coral Sea, Operation Aberdeen Map seperately (if they weren't included in the patches).

Maybe pick up the official mods on the cheap. Road to Rome, Secret Weapons of WW II,
etc. You might be able to find some people playing those.

Definately install Desert Combat if you haven't already. In addition to new maps, this changes the vehicles and weapons too.
