BF 1942 doesn't work well with ATI 9500 Pro?

One of the reviews on Newegg mentioned this card barely being able to run this game. Anyone have any experience with this or know what would cause the problem, I don't want to get the card and have trouble with certain games.

Thanks

also bf1942 has a patch that fixed all issues for me,maybe he needed that or had other conflicts?

mike

edit>bf1942 is a memory hog i run 512 and it plays ok but 1 gig would make mine play better.i don't have a lot of slow downs but there are times when there is a lot on the screen that more ram would speed it up a bit.also what was his configuration?

It might be because they are playing single player and the CPU is calculating a lot of AI. Did they mention what platform they have the card running on?

I've got a 9500 Pro and a P4 1.6A @ 2.13GHz on an abit TH7-II. I run BF1942 at 10x7 with max everything, no problem. I could probably go higher, but i never tried upping it after i replaced my GF3 a few months ago.

Thanks everyone, sounds like a good card. I ordered an OEM version, but it comes w/ 2 cables, one adapter and a driver CD, seems pretty good. Is there any software it comes with that I'll be missing out on? If it doesn't have hydravision on the cd it will come with the Catalyst download off the ATI site...correct? What about that multimedia software that they sell as a downlaod for 9.99, is that something that normally comes with the 9500 Pro or just the all-in-wonder cards?

Thanks

I'd check the date of that review. There were earlier stuttering problems in BF1942, but I never saw anything as serious as some were experiencing. The last wave of fixes has completely cured any anomalies though (DX9.0a, Cat 3.2, 9800pro softmod, BF1942 Patch 1.31), and the game runs incredibly at 1280x960x32 with max everything and 2x AA and 16x quality AF.

He's talking about the 9500 Pro, not the 9700 Pro. I'd have a hard time believeing you're running those settings on a 9500 Pro, but you're CPU is a bit faster than mine, so i guess it's possible. I'm guessing you have a 9700 though.

in regards to the software package, my 9500 Pro built by ATI didn't come with much of anything. Just the driver CD and some DVD playing software, IIRC. Could be wrong on that though. Definitely no other multimedia software or games though, a pretty bare package really.

Will I be able to get the DVD playing software somewhere else (for cheap) since I'm going OEM? Or does it have to be from ATI?

Thanks

I had a lot of lockups on BF:1942 with my 9700 Pro but Cat. 3.2 seemed to fix it. But now I am having problems with Adobe Premiere with Cat. 3.2 :(

That's pretty good management considering most people on the boards would die without 150GB of hard drive space nowadays. I'm still felling pretty good with my 80GB RAID0 array, but i have to admit, its starting to feel a bit tight. More power to you though. Impressive.

Kramer

EDIT: Although, that means UT2003 take up like 1/7 of your disk space. :Q!

I just got my OEM 9500 PRO in the mail. It has a driver cd and a Power DVD cd. Ati said not using there software for DVD's eats up your CPU efficiency, also, they said that you don't get the multimedia center w/oem products, is that software usefull? Does the Sapphire driver CD have the Hydravision software that allows you to use 2 displays? I'm deciding if I should RMA this and get a retail version. Any opinions?

Thanks
