Beyond Good and Evil audio/video probs

Having trouble playing beyond good and evil on the PC. The audio and/or video is all screwed up for some reason. I've played around with the graphic/audio settings a ton and can't get it to work correctly. This is using the 1.1 patch.

The video runs too fast, and the audio comes late (2 seconds or so late)...not a good combo. And a lot of voices are just missing all together. I have the latest audio/video drivers and play many other games without any trouble. Hopefully someone here has had the same issues with this game and figured out a fix. That'd be great...but I guess unlikely.

It might be your dual core processor. I had a similar problem where the gameplay was fast but the audio was off. Theres a program floating around in one of the BGE forums that some guy made to address that. I'll look around for it.

EDIT: I think this should be it. Text

Cool, thanks a'plenty.

Ah, good timing too :D

Hrm it's still not working. Still audio problems, there is no music/voices and the game still seems kinda jumpy in terms of video. Before, I heard all the music/voices but they were a few seconds late. Again I've tried a buttload of different video/audio settings to no avail. Seems like Ubisoft PC games are always a pain in the ass to configure. Any ideas? I might try and reinstall, but probably won't have any luck there.

Just to be clear, you downloaded that program, and you ran it before you started running BGE right? The program should be run first, then BGE so that they are simultaneously running.

The program you linked me to (fullprocessing.exe or .jar) starts BGE itself when run.

A lot of people are having the same problems with lots of semi-old Ubisoft games. Wonder if I'll have trouble running all older games with a dual core processor. Doesn't seem like it should be a problem. Lots of people disable one of the cores to get it working, I don't really want to go that far, would be a pain in the arse.

oh alright, its been a while since I played it. The disabling cores thing isn't too bad, people have had to do that recently for other older games like Painkiller. If you have a laptop maybe you could try playing it on that. I actually played on the T60 in my sig and not my main rig. Sorry that link didn't work out though.

Looks like this is a no-go, maybe Ubisoft will release a patch for it someday (doubt it). Thanks for the help though.

This probably won't help either but after attempting to run the game it screws up all my computer sound. Makes a constant vacuuming noise I can't get rid of until restarting the computer.

Edit: I think I finally got it working. It involved running the patch you linked me to, turning off all effects in the creative sound console (remember having to do this with the first Splinter Cell game as well), and disabling CMSS, whatever that is. Also have to ctrl alt delete then highlight the game exe and set affinity to use 1 CPU instead of two.

Good lord they need to patch this game, what a pain in the arse. Ah well, hopefully I can play it now without any troubles...(unlikely).

Seems to be running good now, a little jumpy, but not too bad.

One thing that's annoying is they won't let me change the bind for the right mouse button. I want to switch the actions of the space bar and the right mouse button but it won't let me change em. Any way to fool the game into thinking spacebar is right mouse and vice versa? I like to make things as confusing as possible :p

If there is a way I didn't figure it out. I didn't really like the controls either but I couldn't get my gamepad to work. Btw, even with that program running you still had to disable a core? Seems weird considering the original post for that program says

Ok, the main problem with this game is that it was designed with console systems in mind. That's fine except for the fact that BGE's timing is related to the clock rate of your computer. Because of this, if you clock rate ever changes, the speed of the game's video changes and not the audio. This makes them out of sync.

This problem is very noticeable on laptops that run processors that are able to run variable clock rates, like the mobile Athlon, mobile Pentium 4, Pentium M, and quite a few others.

To fix the issue related to processor speed, you need to run a program that will force the processor to run full speed before starting the game and keep the processor at the same speed while the game is running. I make a little program to do this. The program runs the processor at 100% for 3 seconds, then launches the game. While the game is running, the program will run a very low priority thread in the background to make sure the processor stays at 100% while the game is running. I use this on my Pentium M laptop and it works very well. I don't know if 3 seconds is long enough to get all the processors to throttle up though. Let me know if doesn't work for you.

Yeah I have to run that program and use the ctrl alt delete menu to set the "affinty" for the game to use only CPU0 and not CPU1, the game acts weird and gets jumpy if both CPUs are being used.

I can setup my gamepad to play it using the Joytokey program, but that gets a little complicated. I like the mouse/keyboard setup better even though it won't let me change a couple of the controls.

at least you got it running now.
i played it a few years ago and had to try a bunch of older video drivers before i found a set that would work. then, i think that ended breaking another game i was playing at the time.
it's a good thing i only play a couple of games at a time.

What a pain in the ass this game is to run :p - First I tried to play through it in PS2 but due to a glitch I got stuck with no way to get out of the Slaughterhouse. Now in the PC version I can't get around a glitch where a card key is stuck in a ceiling for some reason and I can't get it down. Pretty soon the game realizes something is wrong and crashes and gives one of those microsoft error report things. Argh. They should of beta tested this game a lot more. Now it looks like I'm stuck for good yet again, tried everything to get around it =/

edit: ahh, here's a whole thread about this issue: link - No real fix for it. Sounds like Ubisoft is doing their best to keep people from playing this game for some reason. They're doing a good job at it too. I've never had so much trouble with one game.

Theres actually a download to fix that too. I also had that problem, I'll look around for it.

EDIT: There were a couple fixes, but this was the one I used. Text Just follow the directions. I remember thinking the directions sounded confusing, but it worked for me.

I finished the game with both of the problems you had, somehow I still enjoyed it...

Heheh, I'm lucky you're around here. Thanks again.

It's especially annoying after getting trapped in the PS2 version. It's pretty sucky that Ubisoft basically just ignored this game since it was released.

nah no problem. Im assuming it all worked out. You're right though, its shame these things weren't addressed. Ubisoft is lucky Im stubborn about finishing a game once I start it.

Just be sure to make lots of different save files once you get to the Slaughterhouse and you'll probably be ok. Keep a save file that's right at the beginning of the Slaughterhouse mission and don't overwrite it.

I don't think this has anything to do with having dual cores. It's a fix for SpeedStep processors. I have a C2D, and all I had to do was set the CPU affinity to use 1 core, and it worked fine. I don't think the OP should need to use that program.
