WASHINGTON, Jan. 3, 2009 - Patrick Cudahy, a Cudahy, Wisc., firm, is recalling approximately 3,590 pounds of bacon bit products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

:( The bacon gods frown upon ATOT and all those who do not enjoy the true pleasure that is bacon...

The bacon bit products were produced on Nov. 13, 2008, and distributed to restaurant and institutional establishments in California, Colorado, Florida, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.

For the rest of us though..... we can continue to enjoy bacon-ey goodness on all things when no actual bacon is available. :D

It is a poor substitute at best. Anyone that is currently using bacon bits and not REAL bacon should immedeately go and remedy that situation.

Bacon > *. That is all.

Turkey bacon unaffected? Nothing to see here for me.

Real bacon tastes better, but even I'll admit to liking Turkey bacon. The fiancee is allergic to pork products, so we had to compromise somewhere. :( It is healthier than real bacon though...

Bacon bits are made of either small, crumbled pieces of cooked bacon or textured vegetable protein artificially flavoured to resemble bacon.

What?!? Blasphemy! Textured vegetable protien artificially flavored to resemble bacon? WTF? Whoever made that decision to substitute real bacon in bacon products should be publically tarred and feathered. Let the FDA go 1774 on their arses!

Concurred...since I'm such a health freak, I go with turkey bacon. It's far from the real stuff, but its a good substitute. :)
